The easiest way to separate the facts in law associated with your status as citizen and and what you can and cant do, or have to pay or owe is to just weed out anything that either requires you to pay for the knowledge or is supposed to get you a lot of free wealth.
There are plenty of freedoms people can take advantage of or assert their rights on, and that most know nothing about or arent willing to put in the footwork to take advantage of. The traveling versus driving issue is a big one. Californias incrementalist twist in this in recent times is registering all pickup trucks as default commercial vehicles. Im in the process of registering a 2006 GMC Sierra as an auto as it falls under the criteria for that but they issued a temp tag and have kicked it upstairs for now. Only had to pay the auto rate though, and Ill appeal a denial.
For bureaucracies the law is merely a benchmark for them to see how far they can stretch or ignore it. Its up to us to keep them in line.
