No. No. No.
Abso-freaking-lutely NOT.
The season is too long as it is.
Four teams is enough. If you aren’t in the Top 4, you either have lost too much, or don’t have a quality schedule.
Done. Next.
Oklahoma will get stomped. Sorry. They cant play defense. How many 6x-5x games do they win before people say the word defense. My bitch is ND. Cupcake schedule, no champion game, no real trial. They would lose 6 out of 10 to Mississippi state. ND needs to not have special rules.
OU’s defense stepped up in the second half yesterday.
We’ll see if that carries over.
The damn games are too long.
The SEC Championship Game took over four hours.
Agreed. Having said that, I would have punted. I dont make millions to make that call. Also again I would have called up Jalen in the third quarter. Maybe I need to charge millions for my coaching ability.
That’s why the NCAA has to start forcing more good inter-conference games during the season so that each team has to play some quality non-conference opposition.
I thought Tua was starting to heat up when he got hurt.
>>They need to get go to 8 teams.
16. There will be just as many arguments with 8. And this year is a great example of why. Even if you take the 4 announced, add UGa and Ohio St., what are your 2 other ones? Michigan? Washington? UCF? Heck, even Wassu has an argument.
With 16, there’s little to no argument. You’d have to pick between Kentucky, Miss. State, A&M, Texas, and West Virginia for the final couple of spots. NONE of those teams have a legit shot at beating both an Alabama/Clemson team and then turning around and winning a second round game against a UGa or Ohio St. With 8, if, say, Michigan were 8 and beat 1 Alabama, they’d play the winner of a 4/5 game — UGa vs. OU. Win that and they play for a title. We’ve seen a LOT of really high (number) seeds get to the final four in basketball but only ONE team at 4, 6, 7 and 8 (four teams total) have ever won a championship and no one lower than an 8. It simply won’t happen in football very often.
I'm at least halfway of the opinion that college football was better off before the playoff idea. It works better for pro leagues that were designed for it in the first place. College is different and fun because it is.
And in football, the more games you have to play, the more risk of injury.
That’s why I like the idea of having 8 teams, but allowing the 1 and 2 seeds to only have to play 2 games to win the title, the 3 and 4 teams playing 3, and 4 thru 8 playing 4 games to win.
Why should Bama risk losing players in a game against the #16 seed?
Alabama lost? To whom? If you read my initial comment, I noted that Oklahoma lost in the regular season to Texas, but took them out in the Big 12 Championship on Saturday. So, technically, they beat all the teams on their schedule. Okay, so it took two tries with Texas, but...!
I don’t like that point differential could be a factor in determining who’s in the playoffs and who’s not, but a 3 point loss to a ranked team playing a January 1 bowl game looks better than a 30 point blowout to a team that won 7 games and barely made it to a bowl game. Given that, I’d take Oklahoma over Ohio State.
Previous time. Remember !
Who could forget.
LSU was selected to participate in the BCS National Championship Game after a 130 regular season that culminated with a 4210 win over the University of Georgia in the 2011 SEC Championship Game. Alabama was picked as the other half of the match-up following an 111 campaign, with their only loss coming against LSU in overtime during the regular season.
Exactly
Who gives a crap?
Hopefully the games are close. Thats all
Yep
And Theres azero loss team not in
UCF
“Clemson cannot be blamed for the ACC being weak this season. FSU, Miami, Va Tech... all off this year. “
Agree, I’m not blaming Clemson at all. I think they’re a great team! I was just commenting on the crazy Sagarin, (someone else mentioned) program that ranks Clemson #2 and ND#7 when ND clearly had a harder schedule.
So it’s confounding when some say “ND doesn’t belong there”
Ok fine.
Why is Clemson there?
“UCF says hello ;-) And they won their conference.”
I think UCF has a valid claim. I would have NO problem with them supplanting OK.
UCF gave up 40 points to Temple.
Sorry, but if you are in a conference like UCF is, if you want a chance, you pretty much better wipe out all of your opponents.
I hate the current playoff system with only four teams, but in this case the committee got it right. Ohio State lost by 29 to Purdue. That’s what cost them a chance to be in the playoffs.
Huh? Not sure what the 2011 season has to do with this year, but okay.
For what it’s worth, I think the overtime rules in college are so bogus that I don’t consider an OT loss to be a real loss. Too many fluky things can happen.
Too bad that College Football doesn’t take a lesson from the NFL on overtimes.
The NCAA version of starting on the 25 yard line is almost as ridiculous as the extra innings rule that was used in the last World Baseball Championship, where each team starts with a runner on 2nd base in the 11th and subsequent innings.
