Funny you curse and malign like a liberal...I’ll bet you like to gas light and play both sides just to get people going.
“By their fruits you shall know them...”
I think asking forgiveness from the dead is a Catholic and/or secular humanist belief. I don't share it.
My main proposition is children need to be brought up in the admonition of the Lord (Eph 6:4), and not be confused by household gods (Zech 10:2). Scripture supports that view, but some ppl can't handle it because it requires repentance.
Failure to do so is a complete failure as a parent. (Deut 6:7, 11:9, Psa 78:5; Josh 24:15)
I’m not the one repeatedly calling my dead mother a stupid cow.
Once in a while subjects will come up on Freerepublic where one freeper just bares his or her soul and pain and anger reveals itself. We all have those places in ourselves. Responding to it by cursing at the poster just makes it worse. We need to be more supportive of each other than that. I’m glad your sake you had a well adjusted childhood but it is obvious that Salvavida did not and Christmas is obviously very hard for her or him. My own parents had issues too but I love them and have made my peace with them. It was a poison to my own soul just to hold on to the anger I had towards them. To have let all that go was freedom for me!
“I believe that people have many paths to the light...”
Psalm 23:3 “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
It was pointed out in Bible Study today that it is “paths”, plural. I also like the idea that “righteousness” can be viewed as a right relationship. First with God, then with others. (So no - it doesn’t mean that the muslim religion is one of the many paths to a right relationship with God.)
Not to say of course that a muslim can’t be found by God.
6: “Truly, goodness and gracious love will pursue me
all the days of my life”
No I think you have to forgive even though she is dead....only in the sense that you have to gain an understanding as to how she got to be the person that she was. By understanding that you can become a “dam” in the progressive flow of time and staunch the effects of generation sin(like my brothers and I have all purposed in ourselves to do).
Also she is not dead...and you know that from scripture as well. She went to hell if she never accepted Jesus as savior and repented but her spirit animus is still alive. So you can still forgiver her, and what ever you remit God will remit. You can still pray...”Father forgiver her for she didn’t know what she was doing to me”.. We don’t really know how far our prayers will go in saving folks and God is able to go backward and forward in time in ways we can’t even imagine. So forgive her...77 time 7 if you have to. You’ll feel better for it....I know! I’ve done it myself!
I’m not Catholic by the way...I’m Bible all the way....but God while he acts providentially also acts tactically and dynamically across time dimension heaven and hell. We only can view time as being one day at a time going from back to present and then into the future. Some Christians became Christians literally at the brink of death when they saw Hell opening wide for them and they cried out to God and he saved them and they came back to tell the rest of us about it. How many more have done so, got saved “by the skin of their teeth” as the Bible says, but didn’t come back? Who knows....only God!
There is truth but what is the motive behind its telling...an adder’s poison or a balm of Gilead?
Matthew 6:14-1514 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Jesus said let the dead bury the dead. There is no restoration once that last breath is taken, that is why the emphasis on seeking restoration here and now.
You are so right.
Many times posters unknowingly give you a window into a dark place and draw compassion rather than anger from those that listen. I hope they find peace and are able to put their lives and their parents’lives in context.
Many of the things that affected us badly as children were done by parents who were young, stressed, desperate, lost in bitterness, overwhelmed and sometimes even thought they were doing the right thing. Often they were younger at the time of the incident than their adult children are when they are still blaming the parent. Did those parents get the leadership & support from their parents that the children are demanding as their right?
Rigidity is a response to pain & fear. Even though it is maddening to deal with sometimes that pain & fear are important to factor in.
Thank you for your perceptive post.
I wonder if you are misstating what you think here?
No one is suggesting that you seek forgiveness from the dead but that you forgive the dead who have trespassed against you. That you seek understanding by reflecting on their lives and why they behaved as they did. If you find wrong balance it with mercy and generosity, and judge as you would wish to be judged by intent and in view of the crosses that person was bearing. Otherwise your hatred is a stone that lies between you & God.
Never said I held hatred. I just said my mom was a stupid cow. She was, and thats it.
Sometimes the word "hate" doesn't have to be spoken. It's apparent to most of those who read what you write that hatred and unforgiveness are evident. I truly feel sorry for you that you had such a horrid life with your Mother. However, if you want Christ to forgive you, you must have unforgiveness in your heart. Since it's not specific in the Bible who we are to forgive, I believe it is ALL who have wronged us. The KJV of the Bible says that "But if ye forgive not men their trespasses". Does that mean that we don't have to forgive women? Just because the Bible doesn't specifically say that we have to forgive the dead it doesn't mean that we don't have to.
The Spirit isn’t convicting me of a need to forgive. End of story.
Do you believe in the 10 Commandments? Does the Spirit convict you to obey them?
