Back with another one - “Lawless Lawyer.” It’s a legal and political thriller where the characters are trying to take down a corrupt political establishment - that theme pops up in a lot of them as being revealed as characters investigate other things, but in this one, that is the focus from the beginning. Fidelis, I also previously added “Two Cops” - it has a supernatural element to it but not time travel - while it is a very serious crime drama it also has a lot of comedic elements to it.

Recommended K-drama series:

“Healer” - https://www.viki.com/tv/23730c-healer?locale=en

“Naked Fireman” (an odd title - not at all what it sounds like - it is perfectly appropriate) https://www.viki.com/tv/33954c-naked-fireman?locale=en

“Moorim School” https://www.viki.com/tv/27773c-moorim-school?locale=en

“The K2” https://www.viki.com/tv/31865c-the-k2?locale=en (Korea TV 15 rating - some of the violence is graphic)

“Mad Dog” https://www.viki.com/tv/35613c-mad-dog?locale=en

“Tunnel” https://www.viki.com/tv/33747c-tunnel?locale=en (Korea TV 15 rating - some of the violence is graphic)

“Signal” (Korea) https://www.viki.com/tv/26896c-signal?locale=en (some episodes have Korea TV 15 rating - a few highly violent scenes though less than Tunnel)

“Two Cops” https://www.viki.com/tv/35661c-two-cops?locale=en

“Lawless Lawyer” https://www.viki.com/tv/35833c-lawless-lawyer

Exactly right. The other thing is that sometimes they have to remove all of the original audio in order to do the vocal overdubbing. This means that incidental and ambient sounds like footsteps, squeaky doors, silverware clinking, rustling fabric, echoes and reverb in hallways, etc. get lost. They can “foley” some sounds back in post-facto by recreating them in the studio but they’re never as realistic as the original natural sounds.

Thanks for another tip, RW. I’ll run it past the wife and see if she’s seen it yet.

I remember once being up late and an over the air station - I believe GRITv but I may be mistaken - was showing a Japanese movie called “Shaolin Ex-Monk” - dubbed over in English. The dub wasn’t too bad, but kind of amusing in that one of the characters was a Sheriff (or that is what they translated his office to be), and they had the voice actor have a southern / country American accent like a small town sheriff - and it was not a modern time period - so you had this clearly Japanese man with Japanese clothing and hair speaking with a voice of an American southerner.

One thing about dubs is that fight scenes usually revert back to the original voices...that probably sounds better than trying to dub people faking fighting voices / grunts / etc. but ads more awkwardness to having multiple voices for the same characters.

LOL - I found a clip of what I speaking of above - the “Sheriff” starts speaking at about 20 seconds into the video.

The K2 is great - in part, because Yoona (FR’s own Boo Hoo Girl) stars in it. :)

Really? Her rendition of “Amazing Grace” is one of the best I have heard.

I haven’t seen that name posting in awhile...and tried looking it up - “This account has been banned or suspended.”

Let me back up on that - she’s the picture used for “Boo Hoo Girl” - I assume you were referring to the picture of her and not the account name.

Of course. Yoona’s English is marginal and she wouldn’t be posting on a conservative site in the US, anyway. :)

Yeah, I didn't think that made sense shortly after posting and then remembered the picture and figured that's what you meant instead.

(YOONA) - Amazing Grace

Not yet. The wife and I are still working our way through one called “Chicago Typewriter.”

Chicago Typewriter is the one I’m on now myself. I’m not too far into it but so far I anticipate it is going to make my recommended list.
