Felocell FIP is a vaccine that aids in the prevention of Feline Infectious Peritonitis.
I had never heard of it either, when my precious Munchy got it. She had the wet form of the disease, which kills very quickly. We had to have her put down as soon as we got the diagnosis. It was a similar situation with our other FIP kitty.
Make the most of the time you have left with your little fellow, and be glad he doesnt have the wet form.
Thanks onona, I’ll look into it and run it pass my vet.
Our orange kitty is exactly that: Remarkably gentle and affectionate. She’s 16 and showing her age, and is so very sweet.
DO NOT get the FIP vaccination! It can cause FIP! No no no! Every breeder I know (I know Norwegian Forest cat breeders all over the world) absolutely forbid the FIP vaccination and will null and void any health guarantee (to the extent they can which is never 100%) if a buyer has the kitten vaccinated with FIP vaccine. Please listen. Unfortunately it is a terrible disease that you CANNOT test for or vaccinate against.
Thank you. I agree with you about orange cats, we’ve had two, and they are the best cats in the world. I hope to have another some day.
We had a siamese kitten, ate quite a bit, but she didn’t seem to grow, and then her blue eyes turned green.
Then we took her to the vet.
She became weak very quickly, and only lasted one more week.
She was only about 9 months old.
We had never heard of this disease either. I had hoped to never hear of it again.
I am so very sorry you have encountered this horrible disease.
I am so very sorry. I love my cats beyond. I lost two of my three Forests two weeks apart two years go and my first Forest at 16 just over a year ago. Ill never get over the loss of those magnificent beloved cats. Thankfully Ive never had experience with FIP. Its devastating. We can only do our best and most precious act of love and allow them to go to the Rainbow Bridge before they suffer. Its the one final gift we, as their caretakers, can give.
Again, my heart breaks with you and your precious kitty.
Thanks for the info.
I’ll look into both sides with a critical eye and run it by the vet.
If I had to bet, I’d say there is nothing I can do to prevent the inevitable.
Several years ago I lost a 2 year old to FIP. It was very sad. In his final hours at home his older sibling brought him a bat and he had one last burst of energy and fun. Poor Whiskey... RIP.
Thanks! I’ll absorb that the best I can and mention to the vet as well.
Beautiful kitty. So sorry for the grim diagnosis.
Im sure that you will give that baby plenty of love and care. Prayers.
I used to have an Orange cat; They are so sweet and gentle.
bump.
Sorry to hear that.
Lost a Russian Blue to FIP. The vet would drain the fluid from his peritoneum with a syringe. Bought us goodbye time, before we had him put down.
Yes it does!
I have had to have too many pets/friends euthanized. It never gets any easier and I cry like a baby. My heart goes out to you.
Remember the rainbow bridge.
Glenn
I had a kitty when I was a kid who climbed on top of the garage roof.
That way he could survey his backyard kingdom.
We had a kitty like that named Butterscotch.
