I had to laugh when I read that headline....ANYONE who has ever had a pet or lived on a farm or ranch knows full well that animals, no matter what sort of critter it is will tell you when it is time to feed them or other critters on the place....it took Northwestern University and heaven only knows how many $$$$$ to complete a study that most intelligent people know about.

Our cockatiel used to squawk at ten minutes of three every week day— when I was supposed to leave the house to pick the kids up from school. I’d like to know how he adjusted for Daylight Savings Time...

My yorkie knows the time my wife is supposed to be home from work, starts barking her head off in anticipation about that time

Your yorkie is putting out a homing signal.

My landlord/neighbor in Germany was amused with our mutt. He’d throw a buuterbrotchen over the fence every day at three. Or at three o five she’d be barking at him.

[[Pets can judge time]]

Perhaps, but their math skills are horrendous

Dogs love having a routine. It gives them security.

All of our cats became alarm clocks, which is not remarkable since they didn't get fed until I got up to feed them. The remarkable part is how accurate they can be, and that DST changes seem to discombobulate them.

Our previous cat used to let me know when it was my bedtime, while the current cat lets me know when it is 04:30.

I have a GSD who will cry and whine while looking right at the clock when it’s time to eat. This is the same dog who won’t do it’s thing if anyone is looking, and has to have a pillow when sleeping. Not to mention the dog drinks filtered water and sleeps on Italian leather. Dogs are becoming very domesticated.

I have had four Doxies and each one of them knew precisely when 7:30 am and 5:00 pm rolled around, I could find them right by the pantry where their food is stored.

So right!! I laughed when I read this too. Was promptly awoken to feed my pet at 6 AM today. Like every other day. (although it’s Sat. so he gives me an extra hour of sleep. Which says they also understand days of the week. ;D lol.)

My dog knows when bedtime is. It’s when the sun goes down. Food time is before bedtime. If I come back after dark, yep, I get some stern looks from my dog. Don’t know if they can tell that days get shorter or longer, certainly isn’t based on the hour of the day if I miss bedtime...

Our dog (RIP) would come into my room, sit and stare at me knowing it was time for a walk. If I did nothing she would take another step and site, wagging tail on the floor. She knew full well it was time.

What was interesting is when I changed the schedule, if I took her on a surprise walk earlier in the day it became the new normal the very next day.
