These are all valid points, and one or more of them (or even all of them) may well constitute the proper basis for forward movement on the part of Kavanaugh and the Republicans. Time will tell.

I would have preferred something more along the lines of "I was probably wrong." Also, I would add a two word objection to Peterson's "resign after confirmation" tweet: Clarence Thomas.

Peterson is thoughtful in the moment - which is how he chopped up The Strawman B*tch, Cathy Newman.   winking face

We were waiting for clarification, because obviously, you can't give the rabid hyenas of the Left even a whiff of blood scent, much less a taste of blood.

I like Jordan Peterson, but I utterly reject his tone. (Yes I did read it.) I took particular exception with his “Kavanaugh compromised himself” paragraph near the end, and it made me damned angry to read.

Jordan Peterson is a thoughtful person who views issues in all the shades of gray.

But in this, I see it as a completely manichean black and white issue. Jordan Peterson, in his role as intellectual philosopher, is not comfortable with war, and we are at war. This is not a condemnation of Jordan Peterson even as I reject his analysis. What happened in this battle is not his terrain in my opinion.

We are at war with the Left. Being a philosopher is fine, but when battle lines are drawn, philosophy is useless, and battle lines were indeed drawn.

When this came out at the last minute, and I found out Feinstein had held on to this for two months, I dismissed it out of hand, because that simple fact alone tells you it was a political ploy.

Then, she couldn’t fly? She had claustrophobia? She was already holed up in Rehoboth Beach, DE with a lifelong friend Monica Mclean (who she coached on passing a polygraph at a younger age so the woman could obtain an FBI job, and whose lawyer is also the lawyer for ANDREW MCCABE) when she said she couldn’t get to the hearings and asked for a delay. A 2 1/2 hour drive.

And then, watching how they shifted the narrative (when it became clear Ford was an utter and complete fraud and her story, already full of holes to start with, completely unraveled) from sexual assault to drinking and temperament really sealed it for me and the vast majority of NORMAL people.

For the Left, the Clarence Thomas approach didn’t work, so they went to plan B that worked so well on another honorable man, Admiral Ronny Jackson who Trump nominated for VA Director, accusations of alcohol abuse.

When someone lies to my face, I tend to be less willing to take anything they say at face value. Ford flat out lied on damn near everything.

So, no.

As much as I respect and like Jordan Peterson, he should SIT ON HIS PEN FOR THIS ISSUE. Saying Kavanaugh “compromised himself” with his anger, Kavanaugh should have been nuclear weapon grade angry, talk of farts and other stuff, drinking and anything else at the age of 16.

NORMAL people watched this, and it is pretty clear to RATIONAL people that this was a politically orchestrated LYNCHING of an INNOCENT man for political purposes, it was a shameful travesty, and the reaction to it WAS, and SHOULD BE to FIGHT BACK with every breath.

Thank GOD we have a President with a spine, and a candidate who took strength from that. Peterson is a philosopher whose job it is to wring his hands.

He should wring his hands and stay the hell out of it.

I have to agree with your observation here. This probably would have been a better discussion between emails than rather twitter. Where, Jordan right or wrong, could expand upon this thoughts beyond the 140 or is it 280 character limitation. I will buy his “thought experiment” clarification, but ding him for having the conversation on twitter.

I also think some of his observations were wrong about Kavanaugh, but then again, he sees more young men in his environment than I do. Those were his clinical observations over a period of time regarding young men and sex. Whether they actually apply to Kavanaugh is obviously very debatable.

In the end, I think Peterson was wrong to hold this discussion in the public world of twiiter. If it was a discussion between academics, then it probably should have remained as such. Peterson is aware that he can screw things up and that is the last thing he wants to do...but I think he screwed up just a bit here.

Peterson is not a conservative, he bills himself a Classical Liberal. He is a Canadian, not an American. While he is in the states much...some of the nuances might escape him. Maybe...maybe not, eh?

But, Peterson’s war against Political Correctness and the SJW’s is a just war against the insanity of the totalitarian state. Do we throughout one of the better warriors because of a verbal, or rather written miscue? I guess you all will decide.

But as far as politics go, particularly American politics, not sure he’s really thought things through very far, and this tweet was absolutely idiotic, even as a “thought experiment”.

I'm actually kind of glad he did it - but you're entirely correct.

Most people, including Americans, don't really understand American politics.

It's actually quite amusing at times. Most Americans think they're really good at politics.    ROFL face ROFL face face with tears of joy face with tears of joy face with tears of joy

By the way, if you read my post above, you can see as I progressed, I got angrier and angrier...it is not directed at you. And I have always liked Jordan Peterson, but the premise that there was a third option here in this environment was just wrong.

Peterson is not a conservative, he bills himself a Classical Liberal

I'd be hard-pressed to define the difference between what I consider to be a conservative, and a Classical Liberal.

I agree.

Peterson is a culture warrior par excellence and that’s what he needs to stay laser focused on. The man is a treasure in that regard. Young men disgusted with the emasculation of leftist feminism are gravitating to his message in droves.

I don’t disagree with you...as I read Peterson, I too was flumoxed by his observations...regarding Kavanaugh...then again he admits to watching CNN so maybe there is that. It appears as though Peterson was looking at this through a window. He has not particualr stake in the results as he is a Canadian. Yes, tangentially, there is a stake, but that is another discussion. He saw things differently than us. I don’t agree with his assessments, but he says that is what he saw in the whole matter.

Do I toss him aside, or just chalk it up to a disagreement. I will chalk it up to a disagreement. BTW, Peterson is looking to retire from the limelight after a bit more of the book touring. Says he has had enough and wants to return to life. He still has booked events but says he is ready to slide back into obscurity. I heard this on a podcast a few months back...

Thanks, kiryandil. I am breathing more normally now. I started to get really pissed writing that post.

A lot at stake.

I have to chalk it up to a disagreement, for my part. I know we need some people who can examine all those “shades of gray” but...there is a time and place for it, IMO.

This wasn’t one of them...I think the gloves had to come off, because THEY sure as hell took them off.

The original TWITTER tweet was STUPID and this, his *cough* explanation*cough*, is even MORE putrid and pathetically ignorant!

He should keep his "thought experiments" to himself; especially when he neither understands, nor has any factual knowledge about American politics/sentiment/the consequences for Kavanaugh AND for himself for posting this inane crap.

And though you and perhaps some other Peterson fanboys will make excuses for him and still slavishly laud him, hopefully there are others, who follow him, for whom the veil of hero worship will fall.

Yes. I can agree there. And we DO need people like him, the same way the military needs people like Patton, Halsey, and Grant.

Then we will move your marker to the “throw the baby out with the bath water” side of the ledger.

I agree with you. Peterson is worth listening to for the sheer information you will gain about psychology, science, religion and literature, AND also for the intense workout in logic your brain will receive chasing his arguments

It may be an "option"; however, this is NOT a "solution" for anything at all. Rather, it gives the insane faaaaaaar lefties a BIG win and does less than NOTHING at all for Kavanaugh!

I don’t hero-worship the man, but being a hot-head as I occasionally am, I tend to value people who can provide a “nuanced” view that occasionally evades me when my emotion takes over. But as I said, there is a time and place for both of those, and in this case, it was a time for fighting, not talking.
