I knew the original drummer from Looking Glass, we were in the Navy together.

I won’t say anything more, but he was not on that LP

Sounds like a sad story. Those "fifth Beatle" stories are heartbreakers.

In those days the radio markets were very regional too, a DJ on one station had a totally different set list from one at another radio station.

James Gang saw heavy rotation in my neck of the woods.

I like this version, which was also a big hit where I was at the time.

They’ve been making promotional videos since the beginning of rock n roll. Loooong before Mtv.

What the heck were you listen to back in the 1970s, Doc?

My folks had the Dionne Warwick 8-Track. My sister sang with the Carpenters when they toured and needed a children's chorus for "Sing". I was offered the chance and turned it down.

I got exposure to those and other really strange pieces (e.g. Troglodyte [Caveman]/Jimmy Castor Bunch) from Casey Kasem's American Top 40. In 1983, I actually got my Long Distance Dedication played. One of the pieces that offended my mother was Ray Stevens' upbeat country flavored version of "Misty". My mother really liked the Johnny Mathis version, and was uncharacteristically affronted by what Ray did to it. Later I had a girlfriend who heard the Ray Stevens' version first, and she found the watery Johnny Mathis version unlistenable.

This is absolutely one of my favorite songs to start the weekend to!

The video is a bit out there, but I still love watching it. Puts me in a good mood.

LOL, made me smile as well.

Things were definitely different then...the tone of music was very different. To me, the music of the Seventies was the evolution of the music from the Sixties, it was, in general, more melodious to my ear. Happier.

Here is another one you might recall from the Seventies, a friend just sent me a link to it recently...

This disc by a group from England got a lot of airplay on Radio Luxembourg in May, 1972. I don't think it made any noise in the US, although it was better than most of what was being heard on the radio at the time and deserved to be a big hit.

I didn’t see your post...see my post above at #30 regarding Starbuck..I read an interesting thing about that song “Moonlight Feels Right”...they recorded it in one take. The guy on the marimba did it so flawlessly the people recording just thought it could not have been done any better!

Pop band with a marimba player...who would have thunk it...:)

I was a big AM listener at the time--mainly Boss Radio 93 KHJ until I discovered KWIZ at 1480 kilocycles in the spring of '67. Didn't hear that ad at the time, but it's out of sight!

“I remember that summer of 1972 very well. My parents took us on vacation to Asbury Park, NJ, mainly to get me away from the too-hot romance I was involved in with a high school classmate.”

This is a great thread. I grew up in Belmar, 5 miles south of Asbury Park on the shore. Summer of 72 was, for me, the summer between elementary school and high school. I went to Manasquan HS but many of my friends went to Asbury Park HS.

I played in the Ocean Grove Summer Band, we practiced in the old North End Hotel right on the Ocean Grove/Asbury Park border. 10 CC and KISS played in a venue close to the Palace Amusements that summer. I think it was called the Sunshine Inn or something like that.

"Yellow River" is another great pop relic.

I've been trying to figure out the location of the video you posted with no success. I thought at first it might be the Charles River in Boston area due to the "Harvard" type rowboats going by but it could be the Thames in London also.

Here is another video of the same song which is clearly on the Thames.

Classic one-hit wonder. Loved it as a kid.

And I believe it has generational appeal. If you played this video (at least a couple of times) for any teenager today, I know they would enjoy it. They'd chuckle at the video, but they would like the song.
