These people were probably gun free zone yankees who moved to Texas for a job.

 

The same sort that will call the sheriff and game wardens every time they hear you pop off a round at the gun range you've had on your own property for the past 20+ years.

True, but it's gotten way more acute. I don't know how many times the local news has said "suspect described as a male - if you know anything about the incident call police" - so you have to go find the Facebook page of the investigating agency, scroll around and chances are good they will have info to fill in the blanks. Also citizens may be posting there who have even more detailed info. About all the media does these days is alert you that something has happened and it's now up to you to do the legwork to get the details if you're so inclined.

There was a felt sense among the jury that was too much. Maybe unbalanced verdicts in the news a lot at that time? I think the fact that they showed no actual interest in harming the people they robbed...yet...was factored in. I always thought they would end up doing so, if not stopped. Glad they were.

Only about 1 in 10 well-trained, armed people could have reacted quick enough to draw down and start firing in that scenario. It was just too fast and out of the blue. So I agree with you.
