It was a stupid action and the idiot didn’t know how to properly reload a new magazine.
Dumb. Just dumb.
I don’t know, ask Dirty Harry ya dumb grunt!
You know, if I was in procurement for the local Gendarmes, I’d lose the ARs and issue something along the lines of an Mini-14, or even an M-1 carbine.f Good guy guns for these bodycam vids.
One of those gun scribes mentioned above thought that the cops should keep lever action rifles in the squad car. A thirty-thirty has plenty of ballistic authority at cop gunfight range and then some, and talk about good guy associations with the public...it’s a white hat cowboy gun!
Maybe it was Jeff Cooper. Can’t remember.
I wonder if, we the taxpayers pay to send the bodies back to Mexico?
If an unemployed and impoverished US citizen is far from home dies, do they return them to their hometown potter’s field?
Sometimes you’re the windshield, and sometimes you’re the bug.
In Michigan the cop would be in trouble. The state has a law about peace officers discharging their weapons from a moving vehicle.

I agree, somebody else could have been hit.
It was still risky.
The difficulty with the magazine is the adrenaline talking. Fine motor skills go right out the window.
CC
Sure.
Why not?
Why not send the bodies back to Mexico and let them see what happens to those who break the law?
Irresponsible and should be fired.
Mossberg makes a tactical 30-30 lever gun. Its ugly, but I would have one just because.
Have you ever lived and worked in the Seventh Circle of Hell?
Did you go there directly from your normal life, without the benefit of a few days OJT?
And you reacted just as you were trained back in the world?
Many do not, some are damaged and never recover.
Two and one half years RVN, have the scars, gongs, license plates... to prove it.
All that and a couple of bucks might get me a cup of coffee at Dunkin Donuts.
You’re right, the old guys raised the bar too high. The newbies will have to dig deep...
I had an instructor, that studied this sort of thing for Uncle Sam.
I do not recall the actual numbers, but he said that depending on the amount of training, the best still only retain about two thirds when it goes hot.
Average training time, not so much.
Also, see #33.
Yes, at “oh, shit!” Time, things get interesting and your body can betray you. Training until you have muscle memory helps , but is not a cure all.

One perp dead and one wounded seems like a reasonably good ending to the story.
Police hit their targets less than 20% of the time when under fire. This has not changed in decades and seems to be unaffected by conventional training methods.
I am unsure how this might be improved.
“It was a stupid action and the idiot didnt know how to properly reload a new magazine”
It worked quite well. Less than a minute after he started firing the chase was over. The most dangerous thing to the public that I saw was the initial pursuit. Tell us how you would have done it
“Fine motor skills go right out the window”
His motor skills and decision making seemed quite good and also his choice to not shoot out of the window left handed. He was being shot at during the chase also. His actions ended it when he finally got the chance at straight shots. Through the windshield or not it had to be stopped
