I read some spaces were no larger than a school ruler. Pretty treacherous stuff considering a navy seal died bringing oxygen tanks. The fact that they got them out an were able to do so safely is incredible. No matter how they did it.

I am a Retired MD, spelunker as a teenager in New Mexico, and NAUI Divemaster 20 years ago. The answer was pretty obvious from the beginning. You can’t take a kid some 20 feet under water 100 feet or so of overhead obstruction and risk them panicking and losing their regulator or facemask. You pretty much have to intubate them and duct tape the regulator to their head while they are too sedated to move. Put some ophthalmic grease in their eyes and tape them shut and go for it.
Yeah. Who wants to be awake for major surgery? lol. Just put me under and may I please wake up when it’s all over. lol. The fact that they were able to sedate them was a benefit to these children and the team that rescued them. It could have put everyone at risk otherwise.
I have always found how smart people think you are if you don’t tell them of your mistakes.

I am thinking Ketamine. Benzos are too fat soluble and benzos under an extra atmosphere of pressure may act weird.
