UH OH Looks like some Hispanics are trying to get off the liberal plantation. they’re talking about hard work and merit, instead of making themselves into perpetual excuse-making victims, can’t have that.

They are successful.

What’s the problem?

I guess success because you are motivated and work hard doesn’t count.

Success only counts when you claim victim status and are given things you don’t deserve.

My granddaughter is half Costa Rican. She worked hard in college and got great grades. She has no truck with lazy people, no matter their skin color. She works in a hospital and sees the feckless every day. She has a lot of feck. I like her.

This is really good news.

The post-racism attitude; I don't care about race or racism, I'll just work harder and push through it.
And the college professors just lost their primary weapon: Endless phony grievances.

It is puzzling that Hispanics have a strong Catholic tradition (nearly 50% are Catholic) and generally have a good work ethic (they rightly assume that personal responsibility can greatly effect their ability to achieve their goals and dreams), yet they vote overwhelmingly for pro-abortion, Socialist candidates. Makes no sense.

The first thing to understand is that Mestizos, Indians, whatever, who identify as Latino, will vote for their racial interests first no matter how "conservative" they are in anything else. I see it constantly. Truly conservative Latinos, who identify as Americans, are not the majority and never will be.

Racism is alive and well every time you are asked to check a certain block on a government form. That “White, Non-Hispanic” block always throws me.

They are successful. What’s the problem?

First they work hard. Then they make money. Then they want to keep their money. Next thing you know, they might commit the greatest sin of all (guiltily looking over shoulder to make sure we aren't being watched) ... they might vote (shudder) Republican.

$25,000 grant to interview 50 students?

Nice work if you can get it.

A professor at Michigan State University is alleging that Latino students perpetuate “colorblind racism” due to their commitment to meritocracy and free market values.

As an Anomalous-Trichromat-American I must protest this perjorative use of "colorblind". I and my ATA brothers (and a few sisters) must unite with out Dichromat and Monochromat brothers (and again a few sisters) and raise the red banner of outrage. I said the red banner! Red! You've raised the green banner of outrage.. I think. Raise both banners just to make sure.

“Color-blind racism is hegemonic,” the academic asserts. “It comes as no surprise that Latina(o) college students rely on it to rationalize their college attainment.”

Speaking of hegemonic - I see someone asserting her cultural imperialism by forcing her gender neutral language on the Spanish language. Take a thousand Mexican women and you can refer to the group as Latinas. Add one Mexican man and the group becomes the masculine Latinos.

“Color-blind racism is hegemonic,”

What utterly meaningless pap! No wonder she is a sociologist.

“Color-blindness within higher education negatively shapes the experiences of students of color,” Ayala writes, stressing that students are “preventing the rebuttal of an ideology that not only invalidates their unique and cumulative racial experiences, but those of other people of color.”

Rephrasing it slightly:

"Your skin color is your uniform."

Check out her bio if you really want to puke...

‘Maria Isabel Ayala, (Ph.D., Texas A&M) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and the Chicano/Latino Studies Program at Michigan State University. Her research agenda examines the social impact that the unique and complex racialization of Latinxs in the U.S. has on their experiences and social behavior. Challenging essentialist understandings of Latinx cultures, her research argues that normative ideologies and Latinxs’ complex social location within the existing racial structure play a critical role in their life course. Throughout her work, she challenges the deficit perspective by which Latinxs have been examined and instead suggests one of capital. In addition, she discusses the agentive and resilient behaviors of Latinxs in navigating physical, symbolic, and social White spaces. Dr. Ayala’s most recent publications and work under review addresses the experiences of Latinx students in higher education spaces.”

American Academia needs to be cleaned up.

Its sad when ideology trumps reason/logic/common sense, and brings endless lies and slanders and hate

You have to laugh. You read the bio-description of what it says she is about, and even that description identifies pre-conceived ideas, pre-conceived conclusions about her research, yet in her “study” that our thread began with, her research latino/latina subjects presented very different motivations and conclusions than she was expecting and she resorts to slandering them. LOL

And we repeat, she is no true “academic” and does not belong in academia. She has an agenda, that’s all.
