The NBA is funny when it comes to team names. Washington changes from Bullets to Wizards due to the gun violence overtones of Bullets but Utah retains the previous Jazz name from New Orleans.

Almost the entire Philadelphia Eagles team refused to visit the White House.
Both teams in the NBA pre-emptively conveyed the same sentiments. You're living under a rock if you don't see the hate they have for Trump and consequently the freedom that he is ultimately fighting for. In other words, in today's athletics, being an idiot is the rule, not the exception.

In the military, it is the exception that acts foolish or they wouldn't be in long to begin with. The team originally started in San Diego, i.e., they were the San Diego Clippers. Clippers because the city was known for the great sailing ships that passed through San Diego Bay.

They were eventually sold to owners living in the Los Angeles area, so now L.A. has two NBA teams ( like New York, which has the Nets and the Knicks ).

Hence the Los Angeles Clippers (retaining the original name after acquiring it from San Diego )
