Just 22? Seems like a slow weekend there.
“Oh well,” say the progressives. “How can we make use of that? If we can’t, it doesn’t matter.”
No it’s not.
It’s the passage between two buildings that are close together.
Alleys are in back.
Born and raised in Chicago, in the near North Ukrainian Village neighborhood.
Perhaps it depends upon just WHERE, in Chicago, one asks what the definition of "gangway" is. ;^)
Have you ever walked around the neighborhood near the Miracle Mile ?
I lived in Chicago on the North side for 27 years.
I went to medical school at Northwestern which is just East of Chicago and Michigan Ave, so I know that area really well.
Look, you're the on nit picking over a regional word, that isn't used anywhere else in this nation; except by people from Chicago. LOL
Yeah, I know there are parts of downtown without alleys or gangways.
Just trying to set the record straight on that colloquialism .
Just like Bubbler in Wisconsin.
gangway
Any one who lived/lives in chicago knows what this means- its the sidewalk between two extremely close houses
i saw the bitch run through the gangway, only to jump the fence and meet my dog.

you may run thru a gangway to get to the alley from the street but that's as close as it gets
born a block off the miracle mile back in the '40s. have lived south side, edgwewater, south shore, south burbs and now north burbs and it's the same all over town
What gripes me most about this is that the chicago tribune has been running hysterical multi-page "news" articles and devoting editorial space to exploring he number of shootings by CCW holders since it was legalized back in 2014.
OMG ... gasp ... 11 people killed in the past four and half years by CCW holders in all of illinois (and the articles do not even mention how many of those shot were the bad guys).
Guess which street this occurred near?
typical Friday night
