I remember a dish detergent commercial, which, at the end, the lady would rub her thumb across the plate to show how squeaky clean the dishes were.
My dad called that method d.s. clean. Dog slobber clean.
Freegards
I often put stuff into the oven to dry. Ive had to explain to my son that that is not standard practice. I rarely use a rack.
Tell the tightwad that running the dw cycle empty, with a cup of white vinegar, instead of soap, once a week, should help prevent lime build up. Or, you could really have him on the road to poverty, by demanding a water softener. That would prevent lime from every becoming a problem.
1930 GE dishwasher.
We have better controls and gel soap in a controlled dispenser. Otherwise that dishwasher looks a lot like the one we have now.
Hows that for progress in only 88 years?
I remember “Squeaky Clean” as well.
Discontinued unfortunately...
DDT.

Here’s something most people never think about -— how absolutely filthy and germ ridden a restaurant menu is. You sit down, handle the menu all over, (just like the last 100 people before you did) then, use your contaminated hands to eat finger foods
“An old landlady from England would rinse all her soapy dishes in the same tub of water, which I thought was gross.”
That’s the only way British food has any flavor.
Rats...should have read 11 posts in.
Maybe when our society was a little more genteel, and we didn’t have tons of immigrants bringing Lord knows how many foreign diseases in.
“Im of the generation were soap was used to wash out mouths of belligerent children.”
Welcome to the generation where children wash out their own mouths with Tide Pods voluntarily.
Just kidding!
The dishes are hand washed at my house. When I do them the soapy water is hot and the rinse water is even hotter. Then air dry in the rack or clean towel dried and put away.
We always rinse thoroughly with running, and preferably hot, water then put the dishes directly on the rack for drying. No drying with clothes because I can smell the difference.
When there is no running water, I rinse in at least two successive clear water bucket.
But 99.99% of time, we throw everything into dishwasher. My dishwasher always rinse twice. I will never use something that rinses just once.
I don’t even want to think about a no rinse dish, yuk. The aftertaste from the dish must be horrible (but probably yummy for English meals).
You are correct. Soap compromises the exterior membrane of most microbes, destroying them. Or it denatures a lot of their vital proteins.
This is why Ive sworn off anti-bacterial cleaning products. Soap is good enough and doesnt train them to be stronger microbes.
I want a BETTER life by saving time doing chores. Whats wrong with that?
when i was a hostess i wiped down the menus several times a day
Lol
Sounds like something my Dad would say.
