Aluminum and steel cans probably get recycled as does some paper and cardboard, but glass in many areas probably doesnt and plastics are also doubtful. I have greatly reduced my waste by not subscribing to any liberal ragsheet newspapers or magazines.
It is against my principles to give away raw materials for free.
40 years ago when the recycling movement started, I told all my friends that recycling was a plot to get me to stockpile garbage. That opinion is still true.

There is a market right here in the US for anything that is valuable enough to recycle. Think gold, silver, copper, aluminum, even iron and steel. Plastics are sometimes valuable enough, but in general anything that has enough value to be recycled can be separated from the garbage stream by sorting at the transfer station.
Thanks for the video link , amazingly funny.
If you live next to a river, water is free.
And this is relatively old news too. China has been rejecting our plastics for quite a while - at least three years now.
I recycle all aluminum cans. My city gets the money not me. Aluminum is always recyclable. All else goes in the garbage. I know it is dumped into the common dump even if you separate glass plastics paper etc...at least where I live. Might be different where you live.
Yep I read a while ago that China no longer takes our plastics to recycle them. Their ships deliver goods here, then go back empty so they were taking our plastics for a long time.
https://vimeo.com/216389085 —Penn and Teller on recycling. Thanks! I will listen to it.
I live in a place where people worship recycling. The funny thing is that the trash company doesn’t. It all goes to the same place, but they get to charge these pinheads extra money for the recycling pickups.
“but it is messing up the oceanic ecosystem at a cellular level”
Wanna explain how plastics are getting into the oceans??
Yep - we got recycle bins a few years ago and the wife is meticulous about ensuring that the recyclables end up in it - been a number of times when the garbage trucks picked up the recycling instead of the recycle trucks...
“Horseshit. Ever been in/on/over the ocean? Its not full of plastics. You are a dupe.”
I have spent an entire career as a mariner, first in the Coast Guard and secondly aboard MSC ships of all kinds, and have deployed throughout the Pacific both East and West, the Atlantic, the Caribbean, and the Indian oceans, I’ve seen the pollution I’ve seen the Plastics. There Are Places that can render a ship absolutely powerless when plastic debris gets into the cooling systems on board these vessels. I know what I’m talking about. there’s also an effort right now to clean the plastic cup in the Pacific toilet bowl with a boom device that is In full scale development and at some point sweep this toilet bowl in the mid Pacific and clean up as much plastic residue as possible. It’s there, and is breaking down into molecular levels.
Perhaps what is needed is a bit of due diligence on your part before you start slinging around false accusations.
I too have different bins. One for burnables and one for nonburnables.
It’s all burnable. You just need to try harder.
