I had one bite my tire once.
Unfortunately, I didn’t really communicate, in that sentence, what I meant. You took it negatively (omg...a pun),which I don’t blame you for. That being said...
Despite what you see on TV and in the movies, attaching jumper cables to a car battery and grabbing the ends of the cables won’t do anything to you. Don’t believe me, then just go out to your car, open the hood, put your hands on the battery terminals.
The main reason you won’t get shocked is due to lack of conductance. If you get both hands really wet , then grab the terminals, you might feel a burning sting. If you use jumper cables, and touch them both to your tongue, you will really feel it. Hence, my original remark involving moist apertures.
I saw a snake expert say that moccasins will not attack. He clearly knew more about snakes than I do, but I also know he was wrong on that.
I personally witnessed a cottonmouth swim up to and attempt to bite my Brother’s boot. We were in a boat in a swamp. Our Cousin saw it just in time and whacked it with an oar. That snake absolutely was attacking and for no reason.
I ran across on dirt biking, had to be 7 ft long laying across the trail
What I gonna do? I lifted my feet as high as the handlebars, pulled in the clutch, revved it an popped the clutch just as the rear wheel hit him.
In my mind he flew 20 foot but I gotta keep my mind on the trail.
I get to the top of the trail and think “I could get 2 belts made out of him” and I head back..
It was gone! He was a mean hombre or the coyotes were damn fast!
did the tire ‘splode?
I dont hate to do it with rattlers. There are plenty of bull snakes to eat the rodents. He must have had a significant heart condition usually a rattler will not kill an adult.
If ou want to take out a rattler by car you need to hit the brakes when going over them. Just rolling over will not kill them
I try to move snakes every time I see one on the road. By slamming on my brakes as I cross over them
Moccasins’ SUCK
Wrong! Remain calm and wait for help. The only endemic snake in the US that will kill an adult is a coral snake. More injury is done to victims by well meaning individuals trying to treat the bite than is done by the bite itself. People have lost limbs to tourniquets applies to bite areas that were likely not even envenomated and would not have been lethal if they were. Electric shock does nothing for the bite but is quite good at stopping your heart
And the most important part: when you are moving a snake from the road with your bare hand, and the snake bites it, dont just transfer it to your other hand.
And dangerous at that
I capped one taking a pee on a creosote bush.
Red next to yellow...
It rattled
:) Very good LOL
Like I said, I know from experience cotton mouths will attack during mating season. I experienced it as a teen while working for the soil conservation service surveying a swamp.
There is no legitimate medical study that confirms it. And the anecdotal evidence is easily brushed aside. It works every time on people with dry bites.
You cannot post a single peer reviewed study from any medical journal that says it is effective. And if someone is envenomated, it will only be a detriment.
I know that story went around hard in the 80s. But it is 100% wrong. Just like they used to be able to “prove” pellagra was caused by a germ. And they were sure peptic ulcers were caused by stress. Both were exactly the opposite.
“Common sense” and true science do not often mix well.
Also exercise care when shooting at the snake once it’s already in the boat. Especially in deep water.
