They might sound like macho nicknames children would call each other while playing but Renegade and Renaissance are the new Secret Service code names given to President-elect Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.
The Obama's succeed President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura - also known as Trailblazer and Tempo.
And although the code names are used by the Secret Service they are anything but secret in loose-lips Washington.
Assuming he is still in that same position. It seems Comey planned / staged this whole thing so I doubt he would have left his “friend” in that position. But let’s hope he did.

Exactly, but you don’t issue them daily. In the overall planning guidance the guy in charge in country knows his commander’s intent. The guys under him know his intent. The guy under the gun, in this case the man running the defense made the call without handcuffs, without the need to check with his higher up. The result is how joint warfare is done, fast and lethal. A well-coordinated ready defense slaughtered the enemy by combining all available assets in time and space.
