Feminism ruining everything. Her core argument is she assumes a couple never talks about the future before a marriage proposal. Given how ridiculous that is her argument falls to pieces. Some of the great moments in literature are proposals that have gone well of horribly: Darcy & Lizzie from "Pride & Prejudice", the 2nd proposal of Levin to Kitty from "Anna Karenina", and Thornton's proposal to Margaret Hale from Gaskell's "North and South".

I bet she is a bitter old cat lady. The boat sailed without her.

and yet its not a choice made in the course of a conversation **************
During courtship (now there's a quaint word for ya) everyone is on their best behavior. Politeness, sensitivities, and promises exchanged while dating are a long way from real world realities and the daily challenges of marriage. While talking about something may be beneficial, its a long way from living it. A conversation, even multiple ones, are no guarantee of marital success.
The Left loves "conversations" and believes they pave the way for mutual understanding. But in reality, liberals only want to manipulate "conversations" so they can get their own way. They don't compromise, which is perhaps the keystone of a good marriage.
How typical this article is. Another sanctimonious liberal telling others how to live their lives.

doesnt reflect the kind of modern, egalitarian relationships many women want today Stopped reading right there.
The author is the type of woman that causes men to refrain from marriage, or seek a bride from another, less "feminist" culture.

I never proposed to my wife. After dating for three weeks I knew enough about her that I TOLD her I was going to marry her. That it might take some time to wear her down but she was going to be my wife.
25 years of marriage and we are still going strong.

It’s not just the marriage proposal that’s stupid. MARRIAGE is stupid. Especially for men.

We had a two way, extended conversation. Its worked out very well for the last 38 years, even the differences of opinion.

(When I proposed to my boyfriend, we had already talked beforehand. The proposal was lovely, but I still wonder if it was really necessary.)
I wonder if they actually make it to the alter (or courthouse) will she go the way of another gender studies teacher that accused her husband of sexually assaulting her every time they had sex? Or will she discover her lesbianism a year into her marriage and then take him for everything he's got? After all, marriage is just a piece of paper and meaningless to crazy people like her. I hope her boyfriend runs before it's too late.
