There was still a very prominent blue haze even if the blackness of space was visible. In space, there’s no blue haze. It’s just blackness. Under 100 km, there’s still sufficient atmosphere for lift, so something could technically glide.

This thread made me go back and watch the youtube of Falcon Heavy’s launch last month. Now THAT was impressive. When the two boosters landed nominally, we entered a new age..
