Several years ago, I was in a traffic accident. It led to a run in with LEO while I was CC. Lady fell asleep at the wheel and T-boned me. My truck was pretty badly damaged. I was starting to crawl under my truck to check things out to see if it was driveable. There was an officer watching over me (we were still in the intersection waiting on tow trucks) and I was worried that he might notice my holstered weapon when I bent over (carry at about 4:00). So I casually informed him that I had a license to carry and had my weapon on my person. He shrugged and said, "ok, thanks." That was it. I expected no less, but was still impressed.
He may have had good intentions, but he does not sound like a hero.
He has to act, so he takes off his shirt? Why?
Then, when others have the man subdued, you grab the gun and refuse to drop it when the police order you to do so?
Yeah, he was a hero. He didn’t run out the back door, he went towards the threat with a pistol and engaged him unarmed along with some other heroes....and that’s more than we can say about the FBI or Broward Country Sheriffs office.
And to you it might not mean anything, but in a church/homeless shelter him ripping off that shirt is a language with solid meaning. As backwards as it is, a sizeable chunk of troublemakers might give him respect and back down.
Imagine a military veteran in some kind of trouble. A person intervening says’s “hey, I was there over too”. Same concept.
And he just didn’t throw the gun as the cop ordered, and in that moment he was thinking “Jeezzz, throwing it could cause it to discharge..” He was shot. Glad he lived and hope he gets well soon.
Also noteworthy, he didn’t seem bitter at the cops in the slightest.
S.O.P. in Chicago.
You do not want to provide a handhold to your opponent.
So I’ve been told.
You make good points.
I did not know it was a homeless shelter, but now I see it was a drug rehabilitation program.
He deserves more credit than I gave him.
Be nice if there was video of the event.
Cops who have a ‘thing’ for a citizen have been known to take their chances when they see them. Did the cop and the victim have a past?
.
They need to do time for assault with a deadly weapon.
A police badge and uniform is not a license to kill.
.
.
Bullshit!
If he didn’t ebndanger them they had no justification for firing.
They desperately need to do some hard time.
.
Every episode of COPS tv show has the bad guy not wearing a shirt so.... BANG! BANG!
