Maybe we should only elect golfers...
Now THAT is what I need when I go. Or stay with mini-golf.
I have learned I prefer to be in a four-man scramble, if at all possible. Though my last scramble, many many years ago was 3 men and 1 woman. The woman told me what I was doing wrong with my swing. Used to be good with woods - then I could only hit properly with my irons.
In fact I got close to dangerous with a severe slice off one of my woods many, many years ago. (Just one time but it was spooky)
He just had baby twins...so his golf is on the back burner for now. He did get away to play Trump Turnberry though.
I followed him when he played locally; it's a very lonely sport; to play against the demons in your head. He understands innately the physics of golf; I think that is a gift. Enuf bragging :(
I just stand there and swing away. But these days, prefer a golf cart over dragging my clubs across 18 holes, LOL. Haven’t played in over 10 years so I’d have to hit the driving range a few times. Used to be a good stress-reliever after work.
Kept my (Sam’s Club) clubs (from college) in my SUV for awhile. Well, the SUV is gone but the clubs are around somewhere.
Well, you need a good coach; if you have the real desire for golf, you’ll get there.
I could never *get* golf....a nice walk in the woods on a nice hiking trail....who needs being out in nature and be frustrated [golf].
Golf is a good walk spoiled. :)
It’s just an extension for mini-golf for me. Plus they don’t let me drive the cart at the mini-golf links anymore.
Gee whiz, ya run down one flaming dragon that eats golf balls......
Oh I got a story to tell ya - I’ll type it in FReepmail sometime tonight - time permitting
I hear you. I have only attempted to really play the game three times, only twice full rounds.
Years ago I was invited to play a round of golf on a private course with a gentleman who was on the senior PGA tour at the time. Having never played before (even mini nor driving range) I show up on the appointed morning to the private course and am fitted out with a full pro set of clubs, informed that since the course is closed for the season to wheeled things we will have to walk AND carry our bags. (No caddy off season) It was a long long day, and looking back at it he was a true Job. Had nothing but patience and pointers, but never short. Several weeks later I’m invited for a second time, more like the first.
It wasn’t until years later when I was asked to a business meeting on the course. It did not go well. Infact i was asked stop playing after taking a rather large divot on the 4th tee. Had to lug the club bag the rest to stay with the group for the “meeting”.
After the second set of experiences I have learned that If it’s an important meeting at the golf course, I’m taking just a 5 iron and only tee off once. If we have a cart great! If not I’m only carrying this one club so I can enjoy my walk through the park. After telling the story to those present I have never received a hard time re: playing with “just” a 5 iron. I enjoy the walk and sometimes the company. It’s supposed to be relaxing, for me... no.
“In fact I got close to dangerous with a severe slice off one of my woods many, many years ago. (Just one time but it was spooky)”
Years ago I would go golfing maybe once every two or three years. Amazingly I could always get par on two or three holes. (And then 11 shots on the next one!?”
It had probably been 5 years, and I went to play with my sister and her husband and one of their friends. I tee off from the men’s tee at the first hole. That ball went straight for about 15 feet, then made a 90 degree turn to the right. Thank goodness it was a nice day out - as it sailed through the open sliding glass doors of the clubhouse balcony on the second floor!
I’m so lucky it didn’t bean anybody or break anything. Some guy (probably an employee?) came out from inside the clubhouse to the balcony (where people were sitting and eating) and tossed it back down and said “You better go down to the women’s tee - the club house is out of range from there!”
That was probably 20 years ago. The last time I visited here we DID go to a really cool putt-putt course with my kids!
