If I may interject, the incestual culture of Mayella and Bob Ewell was very far removed from the culture of Scout, Jem, Atticus and Dill, and even Calpurnia.

My train of thought was that the author wanted to smear poor white people. Thus Harper created the lowest of the low amongst them. She needed Atticus et al to underline the supposed depravity. Particularly Bob Ewell. I was talking in general terms of the whole way of life there. A hit job on these people.

You know, you and I have enjoyed several interesting discussions over the years. At least I think so.

I sort of follow the policy that I don’t have to agree with posters her on every jot and tittle, because that would be boring.

You my friend can be caustic, but rarely boring.

And “not boring” is a good quality to have.
