When women are comparatively scarce, they are particularly valued for sex slavery. Chinese city women --- I've read--- get abducted and smuggled into rural areas where women are particularly scarce, and might be bought by, say, two brothers who will share her as bedmate, housekeeper and cook.
Don't know how prevalent that is, but the article said the local officials know and don't say anything.

Europe’s middle class is not breeding at replacement level. Neither is Russia’s or the US. I don’t think China has that problem.
