I think you’re letting your conspiracy desire over take you. First of all custody is absolutely a term used by law enforcement or officials if they have ownership of a person alive OR dead. Custody of his body.

The answer he gave about a defense attorney was to a question of why it was taking so long to comb through all the video etc. That is simple, there could be others charged OR once they present the case or evidence against Paddock if that’s how it’s turning out, they want to make sure they did all their procedures and chain of custody properly to prevent law suits from Paddocks family, or questions about if they got the right person or people.

Maybe Paddock had illegal guns and the supplier is known and is gonna catch a case? Who knows who could be charged as an accessory at this point. It’s always wise in such a high profile investigation to make sure they take their time and do it right. Clearly they found something that makes them think he was radicalized.
