Harvey *has* plunged me into a lot of ‘broken window’ thinking. Houston us a RAT city and will require major oversight to mitigate the fraud coming in the repair phase.

Nobody makes $200K/yr as an apprentice. Not even heart surgeons.
He might have paid that for a week but after that I doubt it. He was just real busy and was desperate.

You base that on a 40hr wk salary.

100bucks an hour with 12hrs worked is a different story.

"He was just real busy and was desperate."

Indeed he was. And he remained that way most of the time for several years, at least until I lost touch with him. Normally he paid helpers $75 an hour, but he couldn't keep them, they would show up drunk, not show up at all, be incompetent and/or lazy, not be able to speak much English, or go into business for themselves as soon as they learned enough to get by.( Not much enforcement in that town, so unlicensed plumbers, electricians, contractors etc. can make big bucks, then move on once they do get caught. )

I never took him up on his offer ether, which was repeated a couple of times over the years, because I had other commitments, hate the idea of being 'on call 24-7' and I'm really kinda lazy too, as he would have eventually discovered.

We have a family friend that is a “floating” pharmacist. He fills in where needed for several drug stores. Not outrageous money but he really likes it and has made a good living. Drives me nuts with details if we are working on a home/shop project together, he tells me that it is his best trait in the Pharmacy.

Just because something is outside of your experience does not make it untrue.

And I never said that it was a universal situation. It was, as I indicated, in a wealthy community with very few reliable and skilled workers with a good command of the English language.

Heck, even the itinerant yard work people ask for $50 for an hour’s job.

Where is this mythical place where drunk people make $75/hr? Its an insult to one’s intelligence. PHD’s in hard sciences don’t make that. Where I live apprentice plumbers make $12.00/hr if they are lucky.

It is a year round resort town in New Mexico Lots of rich Texans own homes there. And drunk people don’t make $ 75 an hour. They get fired. It is the NON drunks that could make that kind of money.

And a major point if this article is that skilled trades people can make as much, or more than Phds. Especially if they find the right situation.

Once again, and for the last time: Just because something is outside of your experience, does not make it untrue .

This will be my last response to you. Go ahead and call me a liar one more time, then drop it, because you are wasting your time too.

My son is planning on a trades career. He wants to be a locksmith. I support him just as much as my other son who’s studying aerospace engineering and my daughters who are working and supporting themselves.

You said unskilled apprentices make $75.00 to $100.00/hr. You said that . I say that is BS.

If you give me the name of the town I will research employment opportunists in the region. At least the ones posted on line. Then we will see that in fact you are making sh!t up.

Plumber Salary – How Much Do Plumbers Make?

Apprentice Plumber Salary

Pay varies greatly, but generally starts between $13,000 – $25,000.

As an apprentice, while you obviously need to earn enough to pay your bills, you shouldn’t be too focused on your salary. Your goal is simply to get your plumbing education, master the skills of the trade and advance to the point where you are a Journeyman and have gotten your plumbing license. You will then have a lot more flexibility in your work as well as increased pay.

Journeyman Plumber Salary

Pay varies greatly, but generally starts between $25,000 – $40,000.

Once the level of Journeyman has been achieved and with a few years of experience proving your abilities at that level, you should be earning around the average plumber salary for your area (see the blue text below for a link to salary information by State).

The Government’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the national average salary for all Plumbers, Pipefitters and Steamfitters is almost $50,000.

Hubby who is 77 had electronics in HS, he turned that into a Navy Career of 20 yrs, got out as a SCPO in electronics/math teaching/repairing, got his teaching degree, and went on to teach Electronics/Math for the next 20 yrs in a 2 yr college ended up as chair of his dept that was mostly Tech, from cars to computers.

Youngest daughter took the 4 yr path, now owns her own IT business and is doing well. Oldest bio-chemist did cancer research in Vandy Lab, now sets up labs over several states. Son is Lead Line man for a FL power company with his own crew which is sent to every disaster.

Grandson who will be 16 in Oct is looking at Moore Tech rather than college. He likes the mechanical rather than the book learning. Leaning toward HVAC.
