You have identified the problem of ‘big government’ concisely.
What services exactly do all these ‘paper pushers’ perform? Perhaps they should be assigned to 5-6 homeless people and ensure they have shelter, clothing and food until they find employment. Salaries based on positive/negative outcomes.
Productive citizens are the hostages of Government through taxation, so government employees’ earnings should be based on production.
Yes there are those who are mentally unstable that should be in institutions, at least until properly medicated into balance so they can live normally.......but the majority of those won't continue taking the meds because they don't feel right when they do. Plus the ACLU and demonrats made sure that the institutions were closed, and in fairness a good number of them were the classic snake pits.
And then there are what I believe are the majority of the homeless, those who plain and simple don't want to live by societies rules and prefer it on the streets.
There are many former “mental institutions” that are now high end condos.
Always wondered what became of the “glue-sniffers” of the 1980s and 90s.
