I have read or been told that they now put an antifungal into cow feed so the poop doesn’t sprout magic mushrooms. As for the flavor, it’s not great, but the cow mud can be and is certainly removed prior to ingestion.
Used to go out mushroom hunting in the fall when I was growing up, but my dad knew which ones to pick. You only eat the ones you know are safe. Stupid to do otherwise.
No, it’s more likely related to city-raised people who know nothing about nature picking the wrong mushrooms!
I’ve eaten wild mushrooms since I was born.
I don’t think that explanation holds up. There have been city-raised people in past years. The number jumped this year.
