Last night, we happened to notice at our neighbor's what looked like a surveillance camera red light pointed directly at our patio and bedroom window. The red dot was emanating from a vertically hanging 3 glass ball patio ornament. Black balls. The balls appear to be something like pieced together like stained glass. There appears to be one taunt functional dark wire/string connecting them but there is another tan wire/string loosely attached between them. IOW, the tan wire/string is not carrying any weight and I see no purpose for it.

Not crossing the property line, I waved at it and within 5 minutes the red light disappeared. Now, it could have been some weird coincidence and the red light could have been a strange reflection from their outside light on one of the pieces of glass though the "stained glass look" (whatever it is made of) is black. During the day, it occasionally shines a sun spot onto our living room wall.

We aren't friendly so I can't just pop in for a visit to take a closer look. Fifteen years ago, the LEO was investigating him over a child molestation and even today his grandkids don't visit when he's there. He doesn't know we know and he's not on the sex offender registry so maybe it was never proven. This is one of his and his wife's vacation houses so they aren't here much but that doesn't mean surveillance can't be there 24/7/365.

Over the past couple years, his wifi has been on continuously so I had suspected he had cameras.

This morning, in the daylight, I can't tell if it's a camera or what. If it is, short of punching the guy and yanking it down, what can be done?

Straight up answer: block his line of sight. Fence, wall, tree, whatever you can think of.

More funny answer: give him something to talk about - every night do a little skit (film it yourself as protection for later) where in the camera’s sight you act out something like pre-murder but you make sure the actual fake murder is out of his view. Come out with ketchup all over your clothing and bury the clothing in the yard.

Act out some pre-sex but take all actual nudity off camera. Fake gay sex good too, have someone wear a UPS costume get flirty on camera (have him drop all his packages and run toward you) then go inside and turn out the bedroom light.

You’ll need a pair of binoculars to see into his house. Also sneek onto his property when he’s gone, peek into the windows and find out if he’s looking at your house or you. It’s also possible that he may have hacked into security cams all over town and is following you. Find out his nationality or religious background. He may be a terrorist. You have alot of work to do.

This one is easy: 911. Tell them what is up. If you have kids.this is more effective. They will at least document. If you make any other move you lose.

Many modern flashlights (mine's a "Mag-Light") have a "strobe spotlight" mode that is guaranteed to drive an automatic camera batty...

Put on dark clothing at night, take a route that can get you access to the area and use a black paint spray can to mask it. Then run like Hell. No damage, no trespassing if you can’t be ID’ed and then you would know. Actually I don’t think any surviellance camera has a red light on it that you would notice.

I would do this:

1) Document, to the best extent possible, what he’s doing. Get pictures, maybe rent/borrow and IR (Infrared) Camera, maybe have some witnesses as to his setup.

2) Then buy an outdoor floodlight and shoot it his way, so that it blinds the camera.

My MIL got me a thing to hang outside. It has a glass ball about the size of a tennis ball - maybe smaller. The glass is clear, but sort of cringley and cracked. It has a small solar panel and lights up a small LED inside the ball at night.

Our light changes color, and it refracts around inside the ball because of the crinkly texture.

It was pretty neat for the first night - but after that it doesn’t really work. The light lasts about 2 minutes now, and very faint. Cheap Chinese Crap.

Here’s something with three balls and stained-glass:
