There are social norms in many area of life. I’m sure most of us can think of a few such norms which we don’t follow.

Having children is the most instinctive act possible.

You can choose not to have children and still be happy, but the easiest way to achieve satisfaction and contentment is to follow/satisfy your instincts.

Any society that encourages people to behave in non-instinctive ways will be filled with unhappy people.

Misconceptions About Mexico’s Birth Rate

Urbanization as well as development correlates with reduced fertility. Consider the state of Mexico, the country’s most populous political subdivision, with more than 14 million inhabitants. This state encompasses many of the poorer parts of Greater Mexico City, and thus has a per capita level of economic output substantially lower the national average ($8,900 for the country of Mexico vs. $6,200 for the state of Mexico, in nominal GDP). Yet the state’s birthrate is well below the national average, having been under the replacement level even in 2000

When the niños run out

Mexico's birth rate, once among the world's highest, is in free-fall. In the 1960s Mexican mothers had nearly seven children each (whereas women in India then had fewer than six). The average now is just over two—almost the same as in the United States. The UN reckons that from 2040 the birth rate in Mexico will be the lower of the two.

US birthrate is quite a bit below 2. It’s being propped by immigrants.

Mexico gives out free conception to all Mexican women and it’s pretty effective in the cities but ineffective in the countryside. The primary difference between the 2 areas is how liberated women the women are in the cities and how liberated they are in the countryside.

we put up with hardships to do things we want to do while making a lot of excuses to justify what we don’t want to do.

This explains it all, really.

This is silly

A population decline is not the end of the world. The Black Death is estimated to have killed 30–60% of Europe's total population and it survived. This situation is no where near as devastating as that.

Oh no, we need workers to pay for govt pyramid schemes...

Overall the peasants we import are net users of public monies and not revenue generators.

You’re right; I go through life “depressed and fearful”, but I still have children.

I don’t think parenthood is for everyone, but the effects of refusing to breed can’t be ignored. The whole West is committing demographic suicide.

The real question is not, “What do people want to do?” But “Why do people want what they want?”

After WWII, women were sold on having a career as a means of fulfillment, rather than having a family. This was done for political purposes, as the nuclear family is a direct threat to the leviathan, socialist state whose purpose is to remake humanity. Remaking humanity requires lots of indoctrination starting very early and eliminating other influences, such as family.

So you convince mama that being mama is hardship and oppression and what she really needs is a career. ( Because those of us who work know how fulfilling and pleasant work is. Yes, this is sarcasm.) So rather than raise her offspring mama dumps them in a daycare and goes off to the glories and successes of a job (more sarcasm here). Having one or two kids just makes it all more manageable. And it makes sense since kids are no longer the point of the exercise, but an accessory to a life concerned with other things.

“Mom” and “dad” have lots more income, can have lots more stuff, can work long hours and achieve titles and positions that demand even longer hours.

Meanwhile the kids grow up indoctrinated by strangers and go to political rallies (riots), smash windows and set cars on fire while protesting any office holder who does not advance the socialist agenda. The one or two kids become empty shells incapable of serious thought or philosophy, just rabid automatons spouting party propaganda.

When that happens, you don’t have to wait for population numbers to dwindle to collapse civilization. It is already happening.

The real question is not, “What do people want to do?” but, “Why do people want what they want?”

I think those are both real questions.

However, as a generalization, people will go to tremendous efforts to achieve what they truly want. If a person says he wants to do something - visit his parents, for example - but does not take any steps toward that end - schedule a visit, buy a plane ticket - one can reasonably conclude that he does not, in fact, really want to visit his parents.

Obviously, reproduction is not something that is entirely under the control of any individual or couple. However, in most situations, as the author observed, it's not an issue of "can't" but one of "choose other options."

And it is worth noting the problem is not one couple choosing not to reproduce, it is society at a whole.

We are destroying those who made this nation and importing new citizens with none of the characteristics that made this nation what it is.

The great irony is that equality for women will be one of the first things to be lost.

Reading “Judgment Day” by Al Feldstein and Joe Orlando, it challenged racism of the 1940s. What stood out to me was the line “you have responsibility to procreation, good” that the human observer stated. That view is alien to the middle and upper classes in the West, because they’ve been told it is evil to have children or more than one per environmentalism.

And the more intelligent are scared out of having children by the deliberately inflated “cost of raising children”. You know it is fake when the poor can raise two children and the middle class delays having one. Or from my own experience raising two humans.

it is society as a whole

It is, but it's also one free, individual choice at a time. Many flakes make an avalanche, so to speak.

“You know it is fake when the poor can raise two children and the middle class delays having one. Or from my own experience raising two humans.”

There is a huge self imposed life style cost. Many couples have two salaries even though the second salary barely covers daycare for 1 or 2 kids. Those people think they can’t afford more. Whereas a stay at home mom could take care of 4 or 5 for less cost. But once they design their lives to require 2 salaries to maintain... Other options seem to disappear (in their minds).

I had always heard that things like war and poverty and natural disasters make population rates soar.

It seems that the way to depress population growth is to make people ridiculously prosperous. Then they become selfish, entitlement minded individuals who won’t have kids because of the inconvenience and interference with their selfish, self- centered, self-indulgent lifestyles.
