That is a great story! Of course a pilot would do that.
I had a work mate in NYC come back from SA with some sort of smuggled box. He was very proud of getting it by customs. He opened it and this spider jumped out, about as big as the palm of your hand.

Dumbest write-up I ever saw was for “IFF transponder inoperative in official mode.”
On the dial there were four positions: Mode4, Altitude, Standby, and OFF.
