No, they are just putting the Republican Party where their name used to be and the public at large is buying it.

"Our history is what it is."

Exactly.

The statue to Jefferson Davis was erected in 1911.

FIFTY years after the civil war.

Several monuments were erected around that time.

NOT to "honor" slavery, but as a reminder that after about killing ourselves, we were all ONE nation after all. America.

The United States.

No matter what people thought of Lincoln, that was his ultimate goal.

I'd think that Abe himself would find tearing down this monument very offensive.

It’s legislation within the city.

If the voters of New Orleans object, they can vote their city council reps out of office and elect candidates that will restore the monuments.

They are setting the standard which should lead to requiring ALL blacks be moved back to Africa because blacks were slaves and anything that reminds us of slavery has got to be removed.

“That has zero to do with the federal antiquities protection laws.”

The monuments in question are not protected by the Antiquities Act.

“BLOCK THIS DESECRATION OF OUR MONUMENTS !!”

They are not our monuments.

The monuments belong to the City of New Orleans.

Has there been any discussion in the area of donating them to some of the
Civil War Era National Cemeteries. Lots of them around to choose from.

The plan is to move all the statues to a museum.

The statues will still exist but will not be monuments.

These morons forgot that Davis, Lee, and Beauregard, among others, attended West Point, and fought in the Mexican-American War. They served this country with distinction. Lee’s father fought in the Revolutionary War. But all these people remember is their role in the Civil War.

"The plan is to move all the statues to a museum."

What museum? Will they have to build it, or does it already exist? They should just move them all to Beauvoir - Jefferson Davis Library/Museum in Biloxi.

Two young men hoisted confederate flags today outside the Summerville, SC (Charleston burb) town hall. Seemed to be met with agreeing waves, honks, etc.

I would have a hard time recognizing the place. I hope to make an extended visit sometime in the next few years.

The dims (commies) want to destroy our history so that their history will be the only one that exists. They are already doing this in our schools.

Now there is no reason to keep the waters at bay. Let New Orleans sink.

I read somewhere, possibly
here on FR, the first slave
in the America’s was a white
man owned by a black man.
It’s saddening to see our
history torn from the books
one page at a time...
