My laying hens adore the freeze-dried mealworms I give them as a winter treat when there are no other bugs for them outside. So I guess I like mealworms too: over easy with bacon and toast please.

Survival food for when we must bug-out.

Crickets, grasshoppers, and locusts are Kosher.

...or Quorn (dirt fungus):

The filamentous fungus, Fusarium venenatum, was discovered in a soil sample in 1967. In 1985, RHM was given permission to sell mycoprotein for human consumption after a ten-year evaluation programme

Lots of nutrition available if one is in hard times - funny how such sources of sustenance, that would normally be eschewed by us finicky eaters, ends up becoming “gourmet” and costs more than what I consider to be real food....

The rat catchers in India get to keep the rats for food, along with the 25 cent bounty the farmer’s pay. Oh, and they get to keep any rice they find in the rat tunnels.

I remember, years ago when China was suffering a rat infestation - the government decided to get the people to solve it by a campaign that touted rats as good food and a great source of protein - free for the catching.

I would shoot squirrels and eat them. My older brother would say “Squirrels are just rats with bushy tails!”

He’s right, although I imagine their food sources are different. (At least the “country” squirrels I was shooting).

Carp is one of the main game fish in lots of European countries. All we ever did was bury them, or leave them on the front steps of friends as a prank.

I’ve eaten a few squirrels in my time too - usually as part of a stew.
