Good stories. I left LA in ‘69. Joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. Only was in Frankfurt coming and going. Stationed in Bavaria. Never lived in So Cal again.
Landed in the Northwest, so these days it’s the Ducks for me.

San Diego resident, too, and agree the city shoulders a good part of blame, including the worst stadium lease in sports history (ticket guarantee & leave anytime clauses). Under Mayor Faulconer, though, there were straightforward attempts to work with Spanos and his flying monkey, Fabiani. The city couldn’t promise what it couldn’t deliver, though, any kind of tax increase, including a tourism & business killing increase in the transient occupancy tax as welfare for a multi-billionaire owner. If Spanos wasn’t so greedy, cheap, and stupid and committed to San Diego, put a good product on the field, and negotiated in good faith, he would have gotten his stadium (ref: Petco Park). At the end, the sides were only $150-175M apart for redevelopment of the Mission Valley location, still the best choice for a new stsdium. The downtown location was a late, poison-pill demand by Spanos/Fabiani after they decided 2-3 years ago they were moving to LA.

Your quote: “The Lambs have sucked toilet water since about 1982.”

1. You didn’t specify Los Angeles, unless Lambs is some kind of code. (It starts with LA, so I guess it could be, but it’s also mocking the team nickname, which didn’t change. If it implied LA, it was a bit too subtle or obscure.)
2. It’s the same franchise.
3. “Since 1982” tend to indicate you are referring to the whole time period.
4. They were actually pretty good from 83-89 (playoffs 6 of 7 years.) They were bad from 90-98 (5 years LA, 4 years StL) and 2005-2016 (0 playoffs, all StL except 2016.) When you talk about the times the team “sucked toilet water,” it was mostly StL
