On this site several years ago there was a similar discussion and I mentioned the British-English use of the phrase "sort of". Many Brits, especially the posh ones, seem to plug in "sort of" randomly when they are giving an opinion or describing something.
That comment and several others from that FR thread were quoted in London's Daily Telegraph and a related discussion on the BBC radio. They still use it as much as ever.

I think it makes no sense when “so” is used to start a response to a question.

IMO THE most overused word today is...amazing. Agree! And this one's been going on for years.

It’s gotten to where any time I hear someone say something is ‘amazing’- from nail polish to running water- I consider them below Forrest Gump ‘challenged’. I want to ask- REALLY? You’re amazed by everything??Poor thing!

“Id like to get rid of gift used as a verb.”
Amen, and add “incent” and “incentivize”
and many others which are really grating...
Maybe we should start an ongoing thread about these,
a la “Word of the Day”

I think it’s also the inflection used that’s so grating. Something isn’t just amazing, it’s UH-mazing.

“Thank you so much”. Elvis never said that.

No, anything Sgt. Hulka said will live in the lexicon forever.

I vote for “amazing”, “artisan” and “artisanal”. Way overused and void of meaning today

Curated is another overused word. Seems that Apple has a slew of people “curating” music playlists just for me. I suppose I should feel special but I almost never listen to them so Apple ought to find something more productive for them to do.

giving comes from charity, giving back comes from guilt.

I wasn’t nominating the phrase for banishment, I was using the phrase to respond to the person quoting the first amendment on what is obviously a light-hearted exercise in grievance-airing.
To: SamAdams76
Yes, good one. And the next person who mentions “game theory” should be taken out and maimed.

You could say "I'm vaporizing," but that's something you do with a ray-gun.

"Well...whaddya know? It disintegrated."

My nomination is the irksome and imbecilic use of the word,
"Because" -- followed by a single word -- as a sentence.
Examples: "Because... Trump!" or, "Because... liberalism!"

I would be happy if all the above peeves were ignored and people would stop using the word "go" and "went" as a substitute for the word, 'said'.
"So, he goes, I thought your were going out."
And I went, "When did I say that?"
So, he goes, "Yesterday, duh."

"...using the word "go" and "went" as a substitute for the word, 'said'." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ebonics-based?
Not in my lexicon.
Of course, I'm on my 80th orbit around our local star, and am not much in contact with the mumbling, texting generations... '-)
