Here in Nashville they beg on every major corner

I live in a city with a lot of blacks. They hang out on street corners so they can tap your window when you stop at a light, and they ask for a quarter. That’s it..a quarter.

They hang out in store parking lots roaming around asking people who are putting their groceries in the car..for a quarter. Just a quarter.

So, a couple of weeks ago this black man approached me in a walmart parking lot and asked me for a quarter. I honestly didn’t have one, I didn’t have any money at all, not even a few pennies. I was at the store only because I’d given my neighbor a ride to the store.

So, when he asked me for a quarter, I said...sure! I’ll give you my quarter in exchange for YOUR $10 bill! He laughed and walked away! That’s all it took!

I carry a few extra dollar bills in my pocket, just for this. There are many homeless still in downtown Houston who troll the bus stops at 5:00pm every day. I've come to recognize the regulars, and sadly, they've come to recognize me.

Still, I do well enough that I can afford a few dollars every now and then.

My then 16 year old daughter came home crying one day. Some bum accosted her in a drugstore parking lot near our house, followed her to her car and tried to open the door after she got in.

I reminded her of her pepper spray. She was actually reaching for it as she got in the car.

We went to the Drug Store, a Walgreen’s and I spoke with the manager. He said they called the cops often and run them off.

His suggestion: Don’t wait so long for the pepper spray next time. I kind of liked that guy. He gave good advice.

When I was working in downtown Oakland I was walking from my car to work and I was approached by a black female panhandler. She wanted bus fair for AC transit to “jus gets home suh, cuds you spare sum change pleez?”

She was in slippers and had her hair in curlers. Strange.

Anyway she had a fresh pack of Winstons that she just had opened up and was smoking a fresh one. Packs were several times bus fare.

I asked her “How much that pack cost? How much is bus fare?
then laughed at her and kept moving. The Aunt Jemima act dropped and she went into an Angela Davis mode ie: You MF’er cracker honkey SOB F** Y** x 2-3. Lesson: Don't feed the pigeons.
