The 8 minute video is a gripping reenactment of the shootout where FBI agents, wielding mainly revolvers, were outgunned by the bad guys who were more heavily armed
Bottom Line:
What came out of the shooting was the FBI abandoning the revolver because of its difficulty to reload under fire, and with it both the .38+P load and the 9mm for the agency. The Bureau first went to the 10mm but found agents were having trouble qualifying with it so the .40 S & W was conceived which has now proved to be popular due to its performance. The Miami Shootout has become a bitter training lesson that has resounded through the law enforcement community. The tragic events of April 11, 1986 in Miami have led to better guns and better training, but at the cost of two good agents.

Many law enforcement agencies are returning to 9mm because of the excellent performance of modern ammo. Of course, that will mean more .40 pistols on the resale market.
I think the Hollywood Bank Robbery and firefight in 97 was the tipping point that gave us today’s combat armed and armored police forces.
You're right, modern ammo has given the 9mm a market edge with LEO.
I believe it was the New Orleans shootout with Mark Essex in 1973 that caused the first SWAT team to be formed. That was with local police.
Then in 1997, there was the Hollywood shootout in which the police had to borrow rifles from a local gun store as the perps had full auto machineguns and body armor.
In all three cases for some reason the law enforcement agencies thought a handgun was plenty. It wasn’t.

However, as I remember the story, it was the shotgun that saved the day.
Yup, that N. Hollywood shootout was amazing.
A shotgun was used by the FBI but a revolver finally killed the 2 perps.

On the KTLA talk show some boo-hoo lib called in and said the police should have flushed the SLA shooters out with firehoses.
The host confounded the lib by saying “What if the SLA memebers had shot the firehoses full of holes with their machine guns!”
As I remember, and it has been quite a few years, the Shotgun screwed them up enough to open the door for a kill. But, without the use of the shotgun,the perps would have been at full functionality a lot longer.
Once again, it has been years since we talked this over, but, the subject of our conversation was how great a close range weapon the shotgun is.
At least I remember that much.

The real reason for the disaster was the two guys just would not quit even after suffering life ending wounds. He also pointed out that the 9mms had actually performed well and one had torn the aorta from one of the gunmen.
LAPD had to go to a gunshop and borrow rifles.
Yet everytime someone asks what would be a good pistol to have, wheel gun defenders come out in droves to recommend one. Never mind the fact that no law enforcement agency or military branch uses a revolver anymore. As Bill Engvall would say...Here’s your sign.
