Adrenaline vs Self Preservation
They’re all liberals.
This would have been very bad if you’d been on Mt. St. Helens when it blew.
Maybe this one is smaller...
I predict “not for long.”
Some 400 climbers may still be on volcano...
not for long.
Hmm...don’t go into the caldera when the volcano is erupting. That is excellent advice. I’m writing it down.
Looks a bit like Crater Lake in OR.
This could be very serious if the Caldera collapses and all the water goes to steam.
Standing on the balcony of the observatory, looking out into the mouth of that monster...
Everyone needs to be humbled by nature at least once in their life. This was such a moment.
They probably shouldn’t oughtta be there
Agreed
Mt St Helens is an eye opener on the power of volcanoes.
This one in Indonesia could potentially be bigger.
Just before they opened the new road to the visitors center a friend of mine and I drove our road bikes to the bottom of the new road and biked all the way to the visitor’s center. It was around 20+ miles and uphill all the way. The road was designed to handle motorhomes, so none of the switchbacks were too tight. We rested and then pointed our bikes downhill, back to the car. 20+ miles at about 45 mph the whold way downhill. It was a rush. Scared lots of Elk. Bicycles come up on them quietly...
Volcano eruption prediction not as good as we think I guess.
Cuz climbing a mountain is not risky enough, so they have to climb active volcanoes?
that won’t end well
To a degree true but this volcano was known to be problematic and that was part of the attraction.
It’s a volcano within a larger caldera. All kinds of bad things possible.
That is an unsettling spot to visit but pretty safe and definitely interesting.
