How old (young) was TR back then? A wizard. A true star!

The Nazzs version, from 1968; B-side of the Open My Eyes single, and included on their self-titled debut album (Side 1 Track 4).

He was 24 when his version of the song came out. He was 20 when the Nazz’s version came out.

An amazingingly great song. I feel happy & melancholy at the same time when I hear it.....which is a sadly rare event.
The whole Steven Tyler, Live Tyler, Todd Rundgren, Bebe Buell saga is a pretty wild story.

Ha. (I knew you meant “Liv”). And yes, it was a wild story.

Saw him a few years ago in concert. What an a-hole. First the advertised opening act didn’t play, which someone told us was because he didn’t want to have to follow anyone. Then he mocked people who request songs, “don’t ask for “Leroy Boy”, that’s not even the name of the song”. Next he played a bunch of jazz-rock fusion for the first half of the show. By then half the audience had left when he started playing actual songs, but never did do his two biggest hits, We Gotta Get You a Woman and Beat on the Drum. I never saw a performer who seemed to hold people who paid to see him in such contempt.

When the Nazz single landed in Boston the DJ assumed that the ‘B’ side was the song intended for airplay. Hello It’s Me was actually well known to Bostonians when it was “rereleased” four years later.

My all-time favorite TR song, which also ranks among my all-time FAVORITE songs, is “Can we still Be Friends”. Melancholy and mystical with a beautiful melody.

Other than his Utopia crap, Todd is the most underappreciated musical genius of the 70's and 80's. I have every album ever, all the way up to "Liars".
His gig on "Daryl's House" filmed at Todd's place in Hawaii was really good. I also saw him live in 2006-ish when he played lead for the "New Cars".

Todd’s studio monster comes out and he chases off other musicians. Very few people realize he does every instrument and 95% of the vocals.
