I’m running multi boot on my Dell 5737 Inspiron laptop (i5 4200u 240gb ssd 8gb ram). I’m running Windows 10, Ubuntu 16.04 with Cinnamon 3.0 desktop, Cub Linux (Chromebook clone) and Android-x86 6.0 Marshmallow (Android/Linux distro for PC’s). So I can run most any software on the laptop.

On this (internet access point) machine I am Dual Booting XP and Mepis Linux. I never allow this machine to access the internet when I must run programs in XP, only in Mepis.

Other non-internet machines run XP, or Win 7xx if they dual boot, and various flavours of Linux depending upon their useage needs. Mint, Knoppix, Kanatox, DSL, AntiX, Feather Linux -and one machine I am testing the latest version of Kiosk Linux on.

Firefox downloads vids on the Internet Machine, all others run as necessary.

Unless the program will run under Wine, it will have to wait until the ‘nix port comes out, but thanks anyway.

Cheers!

None of those movies are worth streaming, or downloading or even really watching.

Netflix’s movies selection is awful, and Amazon Prime selection is 10 x worse than that.

Those are only two sources of movies online, if by default the most popular.

Other sources exist if you do a bit of searching...

Oh yeah, for sure. I enjoy watching all theater movies on a particular website that is not hosted in this country. I’m not going to be paying Hollyweird a dime unless I really want to see something in high quality at this point.

But, having been subscribed to both netflix and prime, I must say that it is just shocking how bad their selection is overall, especially prime.

Now a pair of security researchers say they’ve discovered a vulnerability in the Google Chrome browser that allows people to save illegal copies of movies from streaming sites like Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Clearly, that's a feature, not a vulnerability.

As for "illegal", that depends on whether the "vulnerability" allows downloading without having a NetFlix or Amazon Prime account. If the user has an account, it's fair use. Otherwise, it's a vulnerability, but of Netflix or Amazon, not of the user.

If you really want it, video it off the screen.

One of my projects, while working for Nielsen, was to build a system to allow our mall based interviewer teams to conduct their movie trailer surveys via the Internet (they had been doing it with VHS tapes and paper survey answer sheets). On a typical weekend, we tested about 15 to 20 trailers (300 respondents per trailer/survey) across about 200 malls around the country.

The studios were ultra paranoid about the trailers getting out to people not involved in the research, so I had to do everything I could to protect them. I made a custom player, used DRM, the whole bit.

One day I had execs from Paramount, Sony, Fox, Universal, etc. in my office so I could demo the new player, and show the online questionnaire with the trailer embedded at the correct points in the survey.

They were all smiles until I said "of course anyone could still use a camcorder to record the trailer off the screen". They didn't like that one bit... but they still chose to ignore that in the end.

It should be noted that Google patches Chrome a LOT. As such, expect this bug to be patched with a new Chrome release within a few days.

“Researchers David Livshits”

You only live once, and you do shiite, so I guess his name makes sense - but still not a fun way to spend your life on this planet.
