The .223 round has the ability efficiently to take out coyotes, foxes, and the like. Of course it can also kill a human being, but it is in fact less deadly than some larger caliber hunting rifles that also require a separate finger pull for each round. I have not heard if the shooter had any other guns. We hear about the two purchased shortly before the attack on the Pulse nightclub but did he own any others.

Seems strange that if he wanted to be a police officer, had a security guard firearms license and had been working in security for some time he owned no additional guns.
