Is this hype, or is there something big going on?

I won’t believe it until Sheldon mentions it on The Big Bang Theory.

My guess?
Protons, neutrons and electrons are made up of protons, neutrons and electrons.
That’s my guess.

So what did Higgs boson tell us, and how did it change the world or the hearts of people? And what is particle physics going to do?
I always shrug my shoulders at this stuff. They think they’re so brilliant and they’re only discovering what was created. Best to pursue the Creator rather than the creation.

We need a trillion more dollars to fund a whole decade of new bullshit research that has produced not a single thing for humanity in the last 50 years.

I saw Miss Higgs Bosom when I was in high school.

I swear, this stuff they study is half science and half made up imaginary crap.

Good Grief!
Everybody knows ATLAS “Shrugged”....
It was no “bump”.

Best to pursue the Creator rather than the creation. One Honors the Creator by
Honoring His Creation
Knowing more about the Nature of Creation gives
more knowledge of the Mind of The Creator
It's a matter of perspective

I just did a search on “particle physics spinoff”. I found a lot of spin, not much spinoff.
And here’s an undated answer that you have to pay money to see: http://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/0305-4624/17/2/301/pdf

If the observations are confirmed, it will be revolutionary. This could mean nothing less than the fall of the Standard Model of particle physics (SM), which has passed every experimental test thrown at it since it was first put together over four decades ago.
Settled science just got unsettled -or- the Standard Model has fallen and can’t get up.

We need a trillion more dollars to fund a whole decade of new bullshit research that has produced not a single thing for humanity in the last 50 years. At one time pure scientific research actually lead to worthwhile discoveries. Now I don't know what the heck they're doing. I don't even think they know what the heck they're doing.
Consider string theory. It is THE hot topic in physics research today. Yet no verifiable evidence of strings has been found, and no applications have been proposed. So we had better double the string theory budget!
