The father, a manufacturing executive, knowingly sells defective aircraft engine parts during WWII. His son, Burt Lancaster, confronts him after numerous crashes.

The Dad commits suicide in the end because one of his sons, who is is a pilot, crashes and dies due one of the faulty parts.

Like I said, awful.

I thought the faulty parts issue was done and over with with the trial, which occurred before the story began. Maybe I fell asleep sooner than I thought.
