“I loved that song because I saw it as a protest against the 55 mph speed limit that President Nixon had imposed on the country to “save energy.” In my view, getting rid of it was President Clinton’s greatest accomplishment.”

Except he didn’t do it. Reagan managed to get it raised to 65, but only well outside of city limits, and with big red flags (actually made of steel) to tell you to slow back down to 55.

Clinton, of all people, finally put the knife to the national speed limit, after the Republican Congress handed him a bill doing just that.

Those Old Home commercials, to this day, are among the best I’ve ever seen.

Cledus Maggard was probably funnier though. He did The White Knight, Kentucky Moonrunner {a sequel to The White Knight}, and Dad I gotta go. All truck songs.

We tore up all of our swindle sheets
And left them sitting on the scales
