“Can a traveler enjoy a cigar on the deck?”
Indeed one can.

I’ve been to four continents. The best vacation I’ve had with my family was an Alaska cruise on Norwegian Cruise Lines. It’s a sheltered waterway with stunning scenery and worth every penny.
Well, there’s usually glacier climbing. I’ve never taken a cruise to Alaska, but my mother did and so have a lot of my friends. They all loved it. The cruise line will keep you very busy with plenty of activities at your ports of call. The men usually enjoy shooting sporting clays off the back of the ship when you are underway.
I’ve cruised the Caribbean in the middle of a hurricane (not too bad, although I was one of the few who made it to breakfast the next morning) (Norwegian Caribbean Lines). And I’ve cruised China with Pearl Cruises. I left the ship at Beijing for an inland tour of Xian (flew inland by Chinese Airlines and returned by train. Fabulous! This was in 1983, so everything has really changed.)
Find a cruise line that is not registered in a 3rd World Country. I’ve also heard the highest recommendations for Crystal Cruises.
Holland America used to be good.
This is absolutely imperative. For a view. For cool outside breaks. For sitting leisurely in the sun. And if for some reason (which hardly ever happens)...that if the a/c goes out temporarily. And for romanctic sittings together. For relief from all the ding ding dinging preempting announcements. And in fact, for being outside your room and not having to listen to announcements at all. (most are like commercials trying to tell you about the various shops on board)
Balconies provide a good break away from the hundreds upon hundreds or couple thousand other passengers who are traversing the ship at all times. To have room service and take these meals outside in privacy ...with a view. And btw, don't go with assigned dinner times. Sign up for - walk in dinner at anytime.
We've been on a few different cruise lines and the one we prefer is Caribbean Cruise Lines. Never go on Disney - it's ships are packed with screaming kids, endless noise and other crapola. Nor go on Carnival, their ships tend to be nasty and not quite clean. Get a balcony room even though it will cost more per person, for example i.e.. inside cabin for two = $1,200 vs. balcony room for for two = $1,800 per each x 2. Bottom line, pay more for a better vacation.
I'd like to have done that....in the past. I'd now be concerned with the possibility of islamic muslim thugs and rapists at every single port. In fact, I'll never be going aboard. Or South into any greaserville countries.
