it was a disappointingly small crowd

Maybe the organizers will try free booze next time.

That’s horrible. On the bright side, I saw a whole lot of babies and really small children in church this morning. Not new, really, I just noticed it finally. It’s refreshing.

That’s depressing. As low as Italy.

I'm sure it was a disappointingly small crowd --- except for the international coverage.

Very true.

It is very sad that the people of Poland are not even close to reproducing themselves. The legacy of Communism is undoubtedly a factor, but that doesn’t explain Spain, Greece, or Italy. Emigrant Poles tend to have more children than average.

I’m glad you noticed babies in your church. I always do at mine (with mild envy). On of my choir members couldn’t make it to Mass this afternoon because her new granddaughter was born this morning. She texted me from the hospital.

Asuncion’s granddaughter was born this morning ... a little early, but nothing serious as far as I know. They were planning to name her Sofia, but I don’t know if the plan survived contact. We were going name our second daughter Martha, but she ended up as Eleanor. (And she’s about to be 18. Zot, I’m old.)

To Asuncion and Sofia. Or whoever the chiquita turns out to be.

My Vanya is 23 going on 13. Oh what stories I could tell.

Good point - most women of child-bearing age were born in post-Soviet time.

A little older than my Bill, the Student Prince. He came to the Spanish Mass today because he and his dad had been on a trip earlier. Lots of young women were giving him the eye, but he was oblivious.

To be honest, it started with noticing the young couple who usually sit in front of us. Their wedding was about a year ago. This morning, she was looking a little thick.

I always do at mine (with mild envy).

Envy? You??? Good Lord, lady ... you're setting the standard for the rest of 'em to meet.

My youngest is 4, and (being almost 50) it’s unlikely I’ll have any more. If I did, everyone would hate me, except for Asuncion, my friend with the new granddaughter.

One of my daughters told me another of our church’s musicians had her second child yesterday, speaking of looking a little thick. Their first one is 1-1/2-ish.
