What are they really up to?

Stay in the loop until his UN Sec'y General appointment goes through.

If Democrats win, he will surely want to exert influence over where they try to take the country, everything that goes on in the Presidency and Congress.

If Republicans win, he will want to fight with all he's got to keep them from ruining all he thinks he's accomplished.

Would be in the best position to have the knowledge for giving lots of speeches and making lots of money.

He seems to enjoy fundraising.

Just wants to stay connected however he can.

He can still golf to his heart's content which is surely a high priority.

IIRC, it came up months ago that he planned to stay in DC; then it was Hawaii, then speculation the library would be built in Chicago. Now it's definitely DC again. He can do all of the above in DC, and it remains to be seen if Michelle will be happy with that arrangement. Their lives will never be really private again anyway unless they move to Hawaii or someplace like Martha's Vineyard where there is more seclusion.

For some reason, it doesn't appear that he wants to take his family back to their home in Chicago.
