I am not want Allan Dershowitz called an off the charts smart Harvard trained lawyer and self pfoclaimed defender of the Constitution. Cruz. I suspect he knew his own citizenship status all along. If he did not, then maybe he is not as squared away as he would like people to think.

Don’t you think that if he knew about his status then he would have taken the initiative to correct it before he ran for office. It wouldn’t make much sense to ignore something so politically toxic especially after the Obama birther crusades. I’ll take Cruz at his word that he didn’t know because the alternative just doesn’t make any sense.

As for being squared away...well you don’t know what you don’t know. As stated before, Cruz may not have even thought about checking into it. Why would he since he was a born U.S. citizenship and his parents may have told him all of his life that he was not a dual citizen?

I’ll bet that Trump didn’t start looking into the legal ramifications of his mother’s British citizenship until he decided to run for political office. Why would he?

You still didn’t answer why you hold Cruz to a much different and higher standard than you do Trump? You give Trump the benefit of the doubt in his flip-flopping, but you attack Cruz without any proof of wrongdoing or dishonesty.

Trumps mother was an American citizen in 1942, 4 years before he was born unless what I have read about it is incorrect. Either Cruz is a squared away and brilliant legal type or he’s not. I believe he is and he knew all along about his Canadian issues. You can believe what you like.

I assume he had many times he needed to present a birth cert. Not difficult to see it was from Canada, even if he left there at age 4.

“Trumps mother was an American citizen in 1942,”

I’m not questioning his mother’s status, but I still bet Trump checked into it to be sure, but only after he decided to run for office.

“Either Cruz is a squared away and brilliant legal type or he’s not.”

Not knowing something doesn’t make you “not squared away” or “not brilliant”. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt until proof is shown otherwise.

Trump certainly doesn’t know much so by your logic, you admit that Trump was either not very smart, not very squared away, or just plain dishonest with 30 years of supporting liberal ideology and policies, including $250k donations to the Clintons and donations to anti-gun McAuliffe in 2015? Cruz may have been wrong on one issue, but Trump has been wrong on them all so we definitely don’t want Trump for President!

Again, you can’t be objective or credible if you fail to treat the candidates the same. You refuse to give the same deference to Cruz as you do to Trump, despite actual proof that Trump has severed honesty and credibility issues.

I have a huge problem believing he did not know his own citizenship status until the Dallas Morning News reported on it. I was born in Spain to two American citizen parents (my dad was military). I know that I am not a NBC and I am not even a super slick, Harvard trained lawyer.

I’m curious, what does you birth cert look like?

Is it issued by Spain or does the mil have a way to issue a US one for dependents?

No. I admit that Trump was a successful businessman in NYC, playing both sides of the political fence to hedge his bets as many large and successful businesses do. It is a shame that business people have to pay protection money to politicians but it is what it is. I have other problems with Cruz besides his citizenship issues. I do not like that as a self proclaimed defender of the Constitution he voted for cloture on TPA, voted for the Corker bill and wanted to increase H1B visas 500% until Trump forced him to get right on that issue. I will not be voting for Cruz again. I also won’t be voting for Cornyn or my congress critter this go around as they don’t seem very truthful to me either.

I have a framed Spanish BC that is very ornate. I also have a DoS report of birth abroad and a Dos BC.

“playing both sides of the political fence”

See, here you’re giving Trump the benefit of the doubt. He may of actually been supporting those candidates rather than just committing illegal bribes. Many business people do not pay “protection money”, but are still successful. I think this is a cop out in order to justify Trump’s illegal behavior. Unfortunately, there is NO proof to confirm that Trump is merely playing a business game rather than truly supporting the cause. Besides, supporting the Clintons and McAuliffe had NOTHING to do with his businesses!!

I agree with the H1B Visa issue, but I think Cruz changed his tone due more from the outrage of his constituents than anything Trump did. Even so, you named 3 issues that you claim Cruz got “wrong”, but you fail to acknowledge the many more issues that Trump got wrong.

In 2012-2013, Trump is on record supporting a total “assault weapons” ban. In 2015-2016, Trump is on record supporting Planned Parenthood and big government ethanol subsidies. In 2015, Trump is on record claiming to have changed from pro-abortion to pro-life, but he still supports that the choice must be private between the mother and doctor. Trump supported TARP, including the reorg of GM, which crippled investors. Trump is on record in 2012-2015 stating that he supports single payer because it works well in Scotland and Canada. In 2015, Trump is on record supporting gay marriage and demanding that Christians abide by the newly “settled law”. In 2013, Trump criticized Romney for being too harsh on illegals and actually invited Dreamers to Trump towers for a discussion on the issue.

This is the guy that you want to trust with our future? His list of “wrongs” far outweighs Cruz’s and is much closer aligned with Hillary or Sanders. Trump can’t be trusted not to flip-flop all of his newly minted conservative positions back to his traditional, 30+ years of extreme liberal policies.

Vote for whomever you like. I believe that if Trump had not gotten in and brought up immigration in his campaign what we would be discussing now is how soon we could implement comprehensive immigration reform, aka amnesty. I am in IT and the H1B issue in particular angered me. You will notice that Cruz did not change his tune until after Trump mentioned it in his position paper on immigration. I am giving Trump the benefit of the doubt because I can understand a business guy wanting to keep both sides off his back. Trump has never called himself a strict conservative and he has not actually voted for lousy trade or nuke deals. Cruz has, which I do not think any conservative should have. Trump has been a private citizen up to now and he was never in position to screw me.

“Cruz did not change his tune until after Trump mentioned it”

Actually Cruz changed his tune much earlier than Trump coming into the picture. He just submitted new legislation against H1B Visa about the time that Trump mentioned it.

“he has not actually voted for lousy trade or nuke deals”

That is because he was never in an elected position, but clearly based on his liberal positions, he WOULD have voted for every one.

“Trump has been a private citizen up to now and he was never in position to screw me.”

So you want to elect someone that you know has a history of supporting policies that will screw the whole country and give him that opportunity to screw you. If someone acts like they want to take a swing at me, I usually back up and get ready to duck rather than just stand there and give them the chance to hit me. Trump’s policies want to destroy this country and I won’t give him that chance if I can help it. I will never vote for him even if he is the only candidate.

” am giving Trump the benefit of the doubt”

But that is where you lose credibility in these discussions. You admit to giving Trump the benefit of the doubt, but refuse the same courtesy to Cruz. This is about the country and not about you.

“Actually Cruz changed his tune much earlier than Trump coming into the picture.”
That is not how I remember it. I remember that Cruz was still on his H1B kick in June and Trump was already talking immigration. You vote anyway you want. I don’t see myself ever voting for Cruz again.

Your memory must be a little off, but no worries.

You keep supporting Trump, but I will never vote Trump even if he is the nominee. I won’t vote Hillary, Sanders, Trump, or any other demoncrat liberal.

If your memory was “good” then you would have serious concerns about Trump’s flip-flopping on EVERY issue during the last 4 months-2 years.

The link is to an article from November 2015 about Cruz’s new position against expanding the H1B program. The article talks about his 2013 H1B expansion plan still being up on his Senate website at that time. That is quite a while after Trump released his plan. That is how I remembered it. I guess my memory is fine.
