So, you didn’t notice this Microsoft-induced headache?
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/12/15/microsoft_sneaky_about_pushing_windows_10/
Wanna bet a large number of people had their computes upgrade after that prompt? Read the comments to hear of people’s horror stories. At least MS is giving hundreds of hours of Windows 10 undo tech work to your local dealers.
Then, ya got to love this:
“Then early next year, Windows 10 will become a free “recommended” update â meaning it will be immediately downloaded by any PC or device that automatically installs “important” and “recommended” updates.”
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/10/30/windows_10_updates/
Wanna bet that causes a lot of grief, too?
VanDeKoik, you strike me as that cute little devil that posts itself on the should of an innocent person, just egging them onto their doom.
I have Windows 7 on a SSD. It is a pretty small drive, only about 50 gigs. Because of this, there isn’t enough room for Windows 10 to install, so therefore I’m “stuck” with it.
Ping
I’m sitting on the edge of my seat! I can’t wait to see who emerges victorious, VanDeKoik or angryoldfatman.
Are you a Microsoft employee? You act like you are saving Microsoft’s image. Just let people be.
Very much so. Most of my machines run XP. I only have one laptop running Windows 7, and I don't use it much. When I do, it annoys the crap out of me that this pop-up which I didn't ask for, keeps showing up.
"'Then early next year, Windows 10 will become a free "recommended" update " meaning it will be immediately downloaded by any PC or device that automatically installs "important" and "recommended" updates."
I've seen stories about that. They are really trying to force this down people's throats. Have you seen the reports to the effect that Microsoft is really moving towards "rent seeking"? That they are going to "rent" you your operating system. That this is their intent with all this Windows 10 crap?
Everybody wants to get paid for what they own, and not for the work they contribute to society. This is how the Aristocracy started. Indeed, the modern Corporate world very much fancies themselves as a "better than thou" Aristocracy.
They are Liberal, secular, eugenic, and nowadays downright evil.
So what are my “insults”?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are just In response to my post from the last Windows 10 thread:
#1.
No....just extremely stupid. I can’t even be polite and say ignorant, because what you said there is so flat-out dumb that it is astonishing.
#2.
And you wrote one of the stupidest posts I’ve ever read on this subject.
Frankly I don’t know how the tech world keeps breeding this level of uneducated people that repeats nonsense like what you posted.
#3.
Spare me the wall of text because it doesn’t make what you posted any more sane.
#4.
And I’m still wondering how you ever worked in any tech field and be that technologically illiterate.
It’s insulting to call somebody with over 25 years in IT “uneducated” and “technology illiterate”. If this thread here is typical of your posts on the subject, then you have insulted other people as well.
Why don’t you understand this?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I haven’t seen you helping anyone on this forum with financial problems. So please explain to me when you stopped beating your wife.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Non-sequitur.
You imply that you are some sort of tech guru by belittling anything posted that is even slightly derogatory about Microsoft Windows 10.
I would hope that also meant you’ve done something positive on the forum in that aspect. I’ve seen only one, which was directed to me and which I thanked you for.
I have never posted anything positive or negative about finances here, nor have I touted my financial prowess. So you would not expect to find me “helping anyone on this forum with financial problems”.
Why do I need to explain this? Why don’t you understand?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I dont have a motivation. I use Win10, would like to discuss subjects on it, and rarely find anything engaging on FR because the Windows (anything) topics are filled with the usual same people, posting the same nonsense.
Hell I dont care if you use it or not. Happen to be on the site when this story popped up. I actually get the pings for MS stories. I respond to maybe 0.5% of them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If all of this is true, then why are you so hostile? You’re not going to change anybody’s minds by being hostile or insulting. You get a lot more people to see it your way if you were helpful and not abrasive.
Why don’t you understand this?
I went from 8.1 to 10 on my Surface Pro. My remote PC still worked fine.
Havenât had to do RD in a while, So Iâve not tried this myself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m sorry, I thought you read my post.
I fixed my Remote Desktop problem a couple of months ago, no need for assistance at all.
By the way, I had to find another program besides the vanilla Cisco VPN client to get through the VPN. My organization didn’t have the Cisco client that was compatible with Win 10, and the version that was compatible was one that Cisco decided to throw its config file in the trash.
After some hair-pulling, I found a VPN client that read Cisco’s old config files. Ugh, what a PITA.
“He makes himself out to be a database admin or something; he mentioned looking at databases in the last thread tantrum.
I know some smart database admins, but they usually don’t know squat about the nuts and bolts of tech.”
LOL!
Wow. Because the little circle of people you met are apparently stupid, you extrapolate that into “Oh everyone that does X are”?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone does not equal “some” or “usually”.
And not “met”, try “personally worked with and had to do common tech tasks for”.
Why don’t you understand the differences?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And my entire usage of PC is limited to that? Seriously?
Thatâs the type of illogical nonsense I have no patience for with people that CLAIM to be tech literate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are YOU “tech literate”? What qualifies you to be so?
My qualifications: I have been working in IT since 1986 (30 years). I have assembled PCs from the motherboard up since 1996 (20 years). My most recent job in PC tech (maintaining PC hardware, troubleshooting network clients, help desk support for Office suite and ~10 software packages of varying age) I held from 2009 to 2015.
BTW, check my post history for tonight. Rather than doing a VanDeKoik or the Linux version thereof, I actually tried to assist a person with Windows XP. I practice what I preach.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So why dont you post your OP from that thread. I DARE you to show everyone here your VAST tech knowledge by posting that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No need to dare me, son, I’m glad to share my estimates from anecdote.
There seems to be more empirical support for my estimations than not; you have not posted a rebuttal to the OP with any sort of numbers or a link or anything other than “You are a stupid poopyhead who I can’t believe how stupid you are Windows 10 rules YOU DROOLZ HAR HAR woop woop i winrarz”.
My OP:
So is it the number of machines or the method of installation that you’re disputing?
To be pedantic, no, it’s not 100% forced. It’s probably over 90% if you count machines bought with Win10 pre-installed.
Extremely few organizations have adopted 10 since going to 7.
Little old ladies who had 7 and 8 are nearly at 100% adoption rate, because of the nagware nature of 10.
“SHOULD I PRESS THIS BUTTON WITH THE SQUAHRZ ALL OVER IT, MR. OLDFATMAN?”
“Sure, anything is better than the old Windows 8 version you’ve got.”
“WINDERS WHUT? WHUT’S WINDERS? DO YA MEAN MAH SCREENIE THANG OR THAT THERE BOX THANG ON THA FLOOR?”
*facepalm*
But yeah, you’re going to find probably less than 10% of Win10 users installed it purposefully. And I’m being generous.
Linux Mint 17.3 on an external bootable usb hard drive works for me. I couldn’t touch my vista install because for some reason my bios wanted to see Windows on my eight-year old HP laptop. Unplug the external drive, and I boot Windows, plug it back in and I boot Linux. I have no reason to boot Windows and Microsoft can go pound sand on Windows 10 (or 20, or whatever it ends up being).
SHHHHHHHHH!!!
THESE PEOPLE DO NOT EXIST! BE QUIET OR I WILL CALL YOU A POOPYHEAD!!
i dont care about these posts i get pinged on all the windows threads and i only respond to .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000005% of them NOW SHUTS UP YOU STUPID PERSON YOU ARE MAKING ME SOOOOOOOOOOOO ANGRY WITH YOUR TALKING BAD ABOUT AN OPERATING SYSTEM that i really dont care about i really dont RAWWWWWWRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
LOL!
OK, and now the English version of that? While not helpless with computers, I`m NOT, by any means, a techie. (The where and how)
So, VanDeKoik, how many of your tech illiterate friends would have thought they HAD to upgrade, either “now” or “tonight?” It’s their own fault, you might say, but having your copy of Windows seemingly force you to make a choice, would you not say Microsoft was being a “bad apple?” That prompt choice really put a nail in Microsoft’s reputation, in my book. It’s worse than malware, because your computer gets completely redone, and may come back not working.
Oh, and what about making Windows 10 install automatically via Automatic Updates? After telling my customers and coworkers for years to have updates set to that (for all who can’t be assured of staying up on every little patch), my old advice would make their computers go through the upgrade.
Oh, and that’s not all. Microsoft has been extremely obtuse with their updates, often providing such general information about a patch that you really can’t know what it is.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/08/21/microsoft_will_explain_only_significant_windows_10_updates/
VanDeKoik, you may think all of this cr@p is an excellent thing, but the rest of us see this in a very different, dare I say, much more informed and intelligent, light.
Eat that.
It is sort of straight-forward, but please use the link to the originallybreferenced Microsoft KB document:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3080351
This link is listed the The Register’s article, just before the “regedit” reference.
[[Once a week, I look for updates from MS to manually install and that offensive update has never reappeared.]]
I just recently updated my list of windows update- didn’t install any yet- and noticed that the offending update was back in the list- I had to re-hide it- I’m assuming it’s going to come back again every time I update the update list-
“So, VanDeKoik, how many of your tech illiterate friends would have thought they HAD to upgrade, either ânowâ or âtonight?â “
If they can read? None.
” but having your copy of Windows seemingly force seemingly force”
Again, it isn’t, but playing victim of “M$” is seemingly a badge of pride by some on this site.
“That prompt choice really put a nail in Microsoftâs reputation, in my book. Itâs worse than malware, because your computer gets completely redone, and may come back not working.
Take a second to read and you wont “install” anything. Win 10 requires you to multiple times hit buttons giving user permission. Again, you want to hide behind laziness to play victim of some nefarious plot.
“After telling my customers and coworkers for years to have updates set to that (for all who canât be assured of staying up on every little patch),”
So you encouraged people to pay no attention to what is going on with their machine? Wonderful.
“VanDeKoik, you may think all of this cr@p is an excellent thing, but “
Personal responsibility? Silly me I forgot this is the part of FR where you can go and brag about how little of that you engage in.
“Eat that”
How edgy. Can’t take time to pay attention to what you are doing, and it’s someone else’s fault. Better write Obama so we can get a government program to prevent that.
Excellent post, ConservativeMind. You notice, of course, how hostile and evasive and disconnected from reality that his response was.
The only thing he knows is that Windows 10 is the best OS in the known universe, and that anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong wrong wrong and needs to be punished with harsh rhetoric.
It reminds me so much of how leftists operate. “You are wrong, a bigot, a racist, a sexist, a homophobe, an Islamaphobe, and should shut up about anything you’ve observed or read.”
