Aww come on, they use it for painting fire trucks pink, thinking up ways to violate the 2A, and all sorts of wonderful things!
Almost ...
0111 1110 0000 = 7 E 0
0011 0111 0110 0000 = 3 7 4 0
Well, no. I don’t like to bitpick, but must defend my assertion.
2016 = 11111100000 (binary).
The binary representation is the same, whether expressed in hex or octal. Only the grouping is different; either four bits to a character, or three. An octal digit is three bits by definition. I spent many years writing code for 16-bit machines where each word consisted of a leading sign bit and five three-bit octal digits.
2016 = 7E0 (hex) = 256*7 + 16*14.
OK, we agree. I omitted a leading zero in the first hex character.
7E0 = 0111 1110 0000.
2016 = 3740 (octal) = 512*3 + 64*7 + 8*4.
The four octal digits are 011 111 100 000.
Same binary string, of course.
